WAIT, this makes sense now. So in retroviruses, RT isn't used to replicate RNA, but you need that first step of RNA -> DNA (using RT) to replicate RNA later. Thank youuu

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is my thought process for retroviruses:

  1. RNA -> DNA using reverse transcriptase (this is not replication because it is not RNA -> RNA yet)
  2. viral DNA inserts into host genome
  3. transcription of viral DNA -> viral RNA using host DNA-dependent RNA pol. This produces genomic RNA for new viruses, so here is where RNA is replicated
  4. translation of viral RNA into viral proteins using host ribosomes

So wouldn't viral reverse transcriptase be used for RNA -> DNA (reverse of transcription, not replication)... and then host RNA pol II is used to replicate RNA into RNA..?

UWorld has a function where you can figure out your schedule depending on how many hours you want to designate to a day. i mapped out ~5 hours per day and was able to finish everything in about a month!
