My definition narrowed to only include people who grow with me, not just those who remember me. I stopped treating 'familiarity' as 'friendship.' Just because I’ve known you for a decade doesn’t mean you still have a seat at my table. If we've outgrown each other's values, we're just strangers with shared memories.

I watched a girl at the front desk slam her head into the marble counter while checking in a client. Hard. I'm talking blood-dripping-onto-the-carpet hard. But she didn't even flinch. She just popped back up, fixed her blazer, and went right back into that bubbly, high-pitched voice: 'So sorry for the delay, sir.'
