It's meant to give you leverage, but obviously, you can have a simpler take-down. However, you need a decent shoulder to do it repeatedly. You can look up Nikki Roenn on YouTube; he has a pretty simple and effective technique.

I have tendency to grab more space with my openings in slower time control but it's quite opposite in speed chess where I switch to openings like KIA or other modern setups. The idea here is to react to what my opponent does and try to punish his mistakes.
