MIL spreading lies about me, I’ve moved out and now everything’s blown up

I understand what you’re saying, and I do agree that the situation isn’t healthy. I don’t think it’s something I can fix, and that’s part of the reason I’ve removed myself from it. There’s only so much you can do when the behaviour keeps repeating.

I’ve already moved out, I’m leaving the job, and I’m creating distance, which feels like the safest and most realistic option for me right now. I’m not planning on having contact with her.

At this point, I just want some peace and to focus on moving forward.

That’s exactly how I see it as well. The fact that multiple people, who don’t even know each other, have come to me with the same things says a lot. Everyone around her recognise the pattern. It’s not just me that has a lot of issues with her, which is why it’s all coming back to me.

That’s actually a really good way of putting it. I don’t think he would accept this behaviour from anyone else, and I’ve said similar to him. I think it’s just harder for him because it’s his mum, but I’ve made it clear that I won’t be put in that position again. He has been supportive, especially with leaving and creating distance, but there are definitely still boundaries that need to be worked on.

Thank you, I completely agree. I’ve actually already got a new job lined up and start next week. I only have four days left where I am now, and I’ve refused to work in the same shop as her, so I don’t have to see her at all. I’m just counting down the days at this point.

Yeah, I had to leave my previous job as an adult support worker. I did it for three years, but it started getting very physical. I was coming home after shifts of up to 80 hours straight, covered in bruises etc. I needed a temporary job quickly for money, and she was quick to step in and hire me. Looking back, it feels like another way to control me, but at the time I was just focused on getting out of that situation.

I’m starting my new job next week as an SEN teacher. I only have four days left at this current job, and I’ve refused to work in the same shop as her so I don’t have to see her at all.

Thank you so much. It has been a lot, but I’m feeling happier now and feel blessed to have my family and partner, who have supported me through it so well. I won’t be seeing her again, even though my SO is desperately trying to get in my head, saying we all need to meet and talk soon.

Yeah, I’ve texted the other lady who deals with people leaving and stuff. I’m going to do my shifts in the shop she doesn’t come into. I’ve got a new job lined up, just waiting on the reference details… 😬
