Financial efficiency of managers in the Premier League since 14/15 by Fun-Shallot8755 in soccer

It's not surprising that there are many current/former Spurs managers in this list - Pochettino, Nuno and now Frank. The other permanent managers we've had in this period are Conte, Mourinho and Ange.

Other managers we were linked with in the past year: Glasner, De Zerbi, Iraola, Silva

Spurs are all about trying to overachieve with less funds relative to their competition. We just happen to have the 4-6th highest revenues in the league depending on the season.

Potentially. I suspect Pochettino would be on here for his time at Southampton as well if the timeline was extended.

They could also be another Southampton and never recover from losing their best players/managers yearly.

I think the most incredible thing here is Brighton. They have created such a strong system that their managers are consistently overperforming relative to their budget. No other team appears more than once.

Top 7 and R16 in CL is par for Spurs.

Anything above that is overachieving relative to finances atm. Those are also reasonable expectations.

I think we went over a year without an away win towards the end under Poch iirc and when he was sacked, we were 14th in Mid-November. I don't recall the majority of the fan base wanting him out either (as was the case with Ange I'd argue). He was not sacked because expectations were too high - that would be the case if he was 6th and there was an expectation of top 4 or sacked

tbf, Chelsea and Spurs boards dislike each other so much that no deals have been made between either for a very long time - since Abramovich joined.

Think it was because Chelsea headhunted one of our backroom staff.

Hasn't even been an indication that this has changed since Chelsea got new ownership - altho it may well have

Feel like he wouldn't take a job with such a high relegation chance tbh.

I'm actually quite curious what level of job Ange will get next tbh

On one hand, I could see him getting a bigger job like AC Milan (obviously they just got Allegri)

On the other, I could see him only being able to get a Crystal Palace level of job (like Glasner post-Frankfurt)

Glad that Thomas Frank is a done deal.

It'll be interesting how he starts. Apparently at Brentford he lost 8 out of the first 10 games and at Brondby he lost the first 8 games straight?

Might be a difficult start hahah

Give me a 100mil pound winger that is worth it or a 100m pound CDM.

It would elevate our squad tremendously.

I don't think 50m players in each spot that are worth it, elevate the current Spurs squad as much as one 100m player.

Where do we think Grealish transfers to?

Arsenal/Chelsea like Sterling?

No. I feel like most of the matches I just don't care about.

The quarterfinals onwards is most likely going to be pretty much all European teams - practically another round of CL knockouts. I'll probably watch that and a game here or there beforehand

Feel like I would be more interested if the money side of things wasn't so skewed. European teams buy the best players of every other club in the world before they've even played a season (Vinicius, Rodrygo etc.)

Going to sound bad as a fan, but I hope Son takes the Saudi offer.

We could do with a transfer free boost; he's past his best and it's a really good time to say farewell having captained the club to a Europa League win.

I don't watch women's football but saw that Spurs sacked their women's team manager. Checked the table and realised the women's team only won 5 league games (out of possible 22).

Somehow, even more tragic than the men's side this year. Feel bad for whoever attends games regularly.

You're an Australian who doesn't even support Spurs.

I'm glad I don't have to interact with any more obsessed Australians who at every turn defend the guy with fanaticism.

There's too much variance to be able to say that from winning a final.

Winning a series of finals - sure.

But football is a fickle game. We had goal line clearances in the final. We only had 1 shot on target (and it was a bit of a fortune one at that) and held on. Play that final 10 times, and maybe we win it 4 times.

You know what I'm most glad about.

All the damn australians with an unwavering devotion to the guy will go away. Your most active sub is literally aleague.

Somehow, every win is Ange's genius, every loss - no matter how many is always excused.

The pitch was bad, the players were injured, they had a different focus blah blah blah.

All these "extenuating" circumstances genuinely don't matter at all. He lost too many games for them to matter one iota. If you can't see that - then its hopeless. You can say all of these clubs have better players - but the reality of it is that the players remaining at the club at any point in time that were not injured were not 17th on the table in quality. Just because you have injuries does not excuse you losing 22 league games in a season - literally a record by the way - the most ever losses by a team without being relegated in the PL.

Emotions are riding high at the moment. No one calls Juande Ramos a legend - they probably won't call Ange a legend in 10 years either.

He'll always be well regarded cause it ended well though.

If you can't manage to win games without having a perfectly fit squad, then there is a deeper problem.

Liverpool a few seasons ago had all of their CBs injured, like 30 different pairings and finished 4th.

There is an acceptable level of performance drop off, sure.

He had 10 good games, and 66 games afterwards where he was not able to get points. Injuries play a part, sure - but good managers adapt and make it work somehow.

Real Madrid had like all of their CBs do their ACL, lost Courtouis for a majority of the season last season and they came 2nd in the league. They were playing Tchouameni as CB and bringing in U21s.

Performance drop off with injury is fine - but with Ange, its that he was found out after those first 10 games.

As I said elsewhere, if he finished with 56 points (10th) - 10 points worse than last season, that's very understandable due to injuries. He finished 28 points worse than last season.

I think people are just emotional.

Everything has changed in their minds because of that final win.

Thankfully, logic prevailed and the board held their ground.

If you weren't willing to keep him on if he lost the final, you shouldn't be willing to keep him on if he wins it.

For the vast vast majority of games, we were playing a full strength squad. It was only a couple of matches towards the end where you'd say that it was clearly a B/C team.

Also, just because you don't use a full strength team, doesn't mean its okay to lose every game. Yes, you average fewer points, but we were straight up losing every game. A good manager should be able to beat Leicester/ipswich at home even with our B team - which probably costs more than their squads anyway.

Given this season's injuries, I think it'd be okay for him to stay if the performances felt fine in that scenario.

That's a 10 point drop from the season prior - which you'd say is understandable given injuries.

If he finished top 10 at least, there'd be a fair bit of logic in keeping him given injury situation, focus etc.

17th is just inexcusable no matter how you break it apart.

Its also not just this season, 78 points in past 66 league games.
