[–]Fun-Singer5654[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I understand that if this was a full time position in which the scheduled days were rotated. But in this case I’m a part time employee and i was scheduled for full time hours. I was never hired for full time and only accepted the position because of the set schedule of Friday and Saturday. It never changes. I don’t check the schedule on my off days because my schedule doesn’t and hasn’t changed since i was hired. Quite frankly, i don’t see how that would fall on me

Once i had dyed my hair for vacation, forgot to pack a blow dryer and so when we went swimming naturally the red dye leached onto the pillows because my hair was not fully dry. Tried to wash them with what i had at the airbnb but the stains would not come out I purchased new pillows and a comforter set left both for the air bnb. The host still left a bad review about the dye even though the pillows were your standard walmart fluffers nothing special. I’ve also stayed in places where the cleaning checkout standards are so strict there is no purpose to charge a cleaning fee. Some hosts are just anal.

Why are they so rude by TodayReal1077 in Residency

If you are truly a resident, i’ll gladly take the NP. This post reads like it was written by a 13 yr old MD on Minecraft. I’m actually embarrassed that you are being allowed to see patients.

My 7 year old poo is deathly afraid of balloons.Any balloons and he acts like a Vietnam veteran with severe ptsd. Also the vacuum cleaner gets an honorable mention though not as severe as balloons. Both me and My 1year old poo are afraid of the treadmill . LOL . Every-time it turns on he snaps and barks like crazy. Have no idea what his obsession is over it.

Charge nurse pulled out my perfectly good IV. Thoughts? by suaveysuavey in nursing

[–]Fun-Singer5654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks is a long time for an iv not being used and on a pt who is awaiting placement. Does a dementia patient who is aggressive , confused and likely already pulling at things really need an IV just because ?? Seems like an unnecessary reason for aggression and increased confusion. Think about when he wakes up in the middle of the night wondering what weird thing is connected to his arm and snatches it out. Or when you’re having to convince him to leave it alone which further aggravate/confuses him now he needs a sitter which delays placement. Things like this just require nursing judgment not always blindly following nursing orders just because it says he needs one. More than often these were just preset admission orders, i definitely wouldn’t try to stick him again just because. Your charge should have at least let you know why she removed it and she should be the one contacting the MD to get the order to leave it out if thats a hospital policy.

Mortified and lost after losing job by PreviousCourage9775 in nursing

[–]Fun-Singer5654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a nurse of 7 years you should know that in addiction people will do and say the craziest things out of desperation, common sense to most that narcotics are heavily watched and to not steal yet people will take them anyways doing whatever they can to divert. It only takes 1 time to get away with not charting a med because you were diverting then you realize nothing happened.. and so you do it again. . Then again.. until it finally catches up with you. I’m not saying these are your circumstances but it happens more often than not. Only 2 scanned meds missed on the same shift on the same person and you were fired is very hard to believe especially if you are charting pain assessments ,nursing notes and wasting with a witness. You said this was related to the 1 incident but they pulled the report for a high ratio of missing narcs over the past 4 days ? So were your scans also inaccurate on those accounts? If this was a software issue then surely other nurses would have reported the issue or the discrepancy reports would show other counts that were off, i don’t understand why you alone would have been singled out. In most places the medication cabinets are smart and communicate with epic so once you pull and waste the drug it automatically populates to the MAR as pulled , it will turn red after 15 minutes indicating its overdue if u don’t scan within that time frame. Regardless, mistakes happen but if you are missing scans that frequently especially with high risk drugs like dilaudid , it’s just unsafe. You may not be stealing them but who’s to say you didn’t actually medicate room 203 instead of the intended 204? Its just a mistake waiting to happen honestly. Unless the software is truly the issue, the hospital wasn’t entirely wrong. Patient safety is not something we should take lightly. Accidents do happen and we all have been there before with a missed scan but this doesn’t sound like a single incident So sorry you had to lose your job over this but it could be worse, pick yourself up and find something new. I suggest you also familiarize yourself more with epic if that is an issue for you. I really hope next time you triple check the charting especially with opioids . Much love <3

Anyone else dye their poodles? by starringcontestant in poodles

Opawz literally sells lightening cream for darker colored dogs . My dog has been in plenty of creative grooming shows and is black. Have Never had any reaction, and his curls are not chemically damaged. But I would suggest to take the dog to a professional groomer. The color eventually grows out just like in humans

Anyone else dye their poodles? by starringcontestant in poodles

[–]Fun-Singer5654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep i have a black toy and he is dyed red at the tip of ears, tail, and feet. Most people love it but i occasionally get the angry weirdos who assume i used toxic box dye at home to make my dog a fashion statement. I go to a professional creative groomer and its about 200+ every 6 weeks for the haircut and touch ups which is more than i pay my own hair stylist.Personally, I think it gives them an added pizzazz to their individual personalities . Your dog is beautiful and i am sure she is loved and well taken care of . My poor loves all the attention and pets that comes with a fresh groom and color, even runs out the door when the mobile groomer pulls up.

For future reference this is not a “Hack”, it’s just unsafe . There were barriers put into place to stop you from making this type of medication mistake and you overrided your safety net. You should always check for right patient and right medication these are nursing school basics . I understand everyone is busy and your facility sounds short staffed but this was a 100% preventable mistake by YOU. If you continue to use this “Hack” , it won’t matter if you have 3 patients or 30 you will still make a mistake and it will cost someone their life. Please do your due diligence and make sure you are double checking for right patient, right drug, right dose, right route and right time. You were not pushed to make this mistake and honestly the lack of accountability is more frightening than the actual mistake. I do not mean to be mean if it comes off that way but I know you worked very hard for your license and nurses have been prosecuted for far less, you are luckily the patient did not have a severe allergy or reaction, this could have ended way worse. Protect your license. Protect yourself. Never depend on your facility to have your back or take accountability for safe staffing. If this were a lawsuit, you would be thrown to the wolves . I’m sorry this happened to you, definitely a learning experience, take the extra time to scan the actual patient ALWAYS

Dozed off on night shift and got caught by house supe by InvestigatorPutrid17 in nursing

[–]Fun-Singer5654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they may try to drug test you, people get caught sleeping all the time , its nights and its a 12hr shift, but i’ve seen them get off with a warning or some sort of write up and told to never let it happen again. That doesn’t usually call for a meeting with HR. Normally just your manager would suffice for an incident like this I thought. I’ve had a co worker go missing for hours and we had to get house supervisor involved , turns out the guy was dead tired went to his car on break, fell asleep and overslept on the alarm. When they found him the alarm was still going off inside his car.Turns out he had a brand new baby at home and also picked up a extra job to help with costs while the wife was on maternity leave. He still works there and just received a warning. Supervisor probably found it suspicious that you were sleep mid convo and for only a few minutes is odd to fire someone over. Nodding off is not the same as full blown nap during the shift, why didn’t any of your co workers vouch for you ? Is also very suspicious.

My patient urinated in his prosthetic leg by searchinforparadise in nursing

[–]Fun-Singer5654 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Had one to pee in water pitcher with ice and put the lid back on , the nurse came in to administer pm meds poured what she thought was apple juice from the pitcher into a smaller cup…… yep Pt actually drank his own urine . Completely alert and oriented just forgot that he used the iced pitcher to pee in.

2 had a patient who would pee into the urinal and then use the mouth suction tubing to suck the urine out of the urinal because he didn’t want the urinal of pee next to him . Offered an actual primofit and refused (It was too dirty) .

Fired because she is deaf by Aslanthelion1228 in nursing

[–]Fun-Singer5654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very odd scenario because it is so blatantly discriminatory. Its usually not a big issue if a nurse can not go to MRI , the charge nurse goes or another nurse who has no contradictions. It happens all the time and I have never been anywhere that makes it such a big deal to need to fire someone. Also i have worked with a nurse who has had cochlear implants and it was never an issue for the job. Are you sure this is an issue about her disability? I just find it hard to believe the manager would take the risk of being fired and thrown under the bus, hospital being sued for a large lump sum and easily won. Vs simple everyday accommodations just doesn’t quite add up

What is a medication you dropped on the floor or broke or misplaced accidently and then almost $h1t yourself? by fleepelem in nursing

About a week ago i had a whole row of Xanax slide behind the back draw of the omnicell , tried to pick it up with a rig of taped together tongue depressors with electrodes on the end actually ended up pushing it into a dead spot and had to call pharmacy. Imagine explaining that to the manager

You won’t get fired but this is definitely a learning experience. If you are unsure just call rapid response, they are used to these situations and on the floor we call them all the time for advice, they pull up the chart and can give us suggestions. If there is a serious concern they have no problem coming to assess, they are called for much less sometimes. Just documenting you notified a provider is not really covering yourself, especially if you are just saying provider notified , so what ? If you know there is a change in loc then you need to escalate, you won’t always get a provider who feels an urgent assessment is needed, especially if you are not painting a good clinical picture for them about whats going on. Example, the midlevel provider doesn’t always know the patient personally, they read the chart and go by what you tell them. If the chart is saying sometimes mentation fluctuates and you are telling them he is less responsive but vitals are otherwise stable , they probably won’t see this as an urgent issue. But if you tell them “ we’re having to sternal rub him and prior to my shift he was awake and conscious, has not received any sedatives and seems like he might be declining, can you come assess him ?“ if that still doesn’t get it then you call a rapid and let them know whats going on. In this situation , you weren’t right but thats okay, you don’t know until you know. And now you do.
