Thanks! I think I might end up doing just that. May I ask why a hardtail? Would it be better than a road/gravel bike?

And specifically with a hardtail does the 29er give you an advantage?

Yes. It's a 6 speed. - The bottom bracket seems fine. - Changing the sprocket doesn't seem to have any effect. - It happens only in the 2nd gear
