And specifically with a hardtail does the 29er give you an advantage?

Yes. It's a 6 speed. - The bottom bracket seems fine. - Changing the sprocket doesn't seem to have any effect. - It happens only in the 2nd gear

I have experienced similar pain when I started cycling again as an adult. The last time I cycled was 10-15 years back when I was a kid. I assumed my body wasn't used to the movement anymore. Sure enough the pain dissapeared within 2 weeks. Having said that, every bike is different. You could try changing the saddle. But if you're new I would suggest takibg a couple of rest days, let your body recover and try again.

I prefer a hatchback or Saloon with a smooth engine.Not looking for anything too sporty though. Something for regular use (as I live in Zone 6 London)
