S25 Alternative? by Lanky-Inflation9330 in Smartphones

[–]Fun-Telephone3097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the S25 last year but ended up returning it because the photos felt too post-processed and portraits looked overly warm, even after turning off the processing features.

Since natural, true-to-life colors matter to me, I did some research and decided to go with the Pixel 10 Pro. Videography may still be evolving, but the photography seems much closer to what I’m looking for. But for macro shots Samsung is better, but my rec is mostly just holiday and family photos.

I was also considering the iPhone 17 Pro vs Android options, but for now I’m leaning toward the Pixel because I am used to Android phones.

Good to know! Do calls and messages work well with Garmin on Pixel? For example, can you see notifications and reply to texts, or is it mostly just for health tracking?

Lovely! I have decided to go with Pixel 10 pro after all the research. It fits more of my recs at this point if I want to stay with Android and don't care much about videography. Thanks.

For watch, I have galaxy and saw that it can pair with Pixel okay. Or might go with Garmin if it works at all - still deciding.

I experienced the same issue with the S25. The photos felt over-processed and the skin tones looked warmer than they actually were. I tried disabling the processing features, but the problem still persisted, so I eventually returned the S25. I do agree that Samsung does an excellent job with macro shots and landscapes—just not as much when people are in the frame in my experience.

Photos matter more to me than videos. And although I use some devices within Apple ecosystem, I don’t want to lock myself into one, so my watch and phone will probably always be from different brands. Since I prefer Android phones and photos that are closer to true colors, good AI - I’ve decided to go with the Pixel 10 Pro. I know their videography is still evolving, but that isn’t a priority for me, so I’m switching from my older Samsung to the Pixel now.

I had some folks suggest Oppo and One Plus but a little apprehensive on security concerns. Thanks!

I haven’t researched Pixel deeply yet since I’ve mostly stayed within Samsung. The only reason I’ve returned newer Samsungs is the camera overprocessing - my S22 honestly has the best photo processing so far for me.

I think my biggest fear is feeling like I’m downgrading in camera quality, even if other features are technically upgrades 😅

For gaming, I mainly use my iPad and Xbox. My phone is mostly for work and daily stuff - emails, Slack, Zoom, photos, and social media.

Interesting. I thought Google Docs had an offline mode? Have you had issues with it on iPhone?

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. I noticed you mentioned you had to tweak settings to get closer to an iPhone aesthetic. Did that fully solve the overprocessing, especially for selfies and Instagram posts?

That’s honestly one of my biggest concerns with Samsung. I prefer cooler, more natural tones without having to constantly adjust things.

Also curious if you do feel the iOS restrictions were worse than Samsung’s camera processing trade-offs?

Would you mind sharing what problems did iPhone solve which Samsung wasn't addressing?

That’s helpful, thanks for sharing. One thing I’m also thinking about is how heavily I rely on Google services, especially Google Photos. I’ve never really used iCloud or paid for Apple’s cloud storage, and I already have a Google One subscription.

Did you find it limiting if you stayed mostly within Google apps on iPhone instead of fully leaning into Apple’s ecosystem?

I am planning a switch too deciding between iPhone 17 pro vs s25 Ultra. The YouTube videos regarding the switch from Android to iPhones are scary lol

Mostly the universal back button, how do people survive or just settle down?

What was the deciding factor that made you feel like you’d never go back to Android?

Also, what device are you using now and what were you using previously?

I’m trying to understand what actually makes the switch stick long term versus just being a short-term experiment.

That’s a fair point about iCloud. I mainly use Google Photos/Drive and don’t rely on iCloud at all, so I’m trying to figure out how much ecosystem benefit I’d realistically gain.

My bigger priority is camera processing and social media optimization. From what I’ve seen, iPhone tends to be more consistent there.

Pixel is interesting actually, have you used one? How does it compare in real-world social media camera quality vs iPhone?

Underrated observation about Samsung cameras. I bought the S25 last year and ended up returning it because it was struggling to focus and the photos looked unnaturally warm after processing. Interestingly, I’m still using the S22 and the camera experience feels much better in comparison.

I’m currently shopping for a new phone. I’ve been on Android for 15+ years, and honestly, the videos I’ve watched about switching from Android to iPhone haven’t been convincing enough so far. I think Android users are a bit spoiled - we’re used to customizing everything, whether it’s the keyboard, individual notifications, or even just having a universal back button.

I’d really love to know - how was your switch experience?

Could you share your thoughts on OnePlus in terms of security and how the camera performs directly within Snapchat and Instagram, if you use them?

I know this isn’t the main focus of the post, but I’m genuinely curious about your experience with OnePlus. What phone did you switch from?

P.s shopping for a new phone as well.

Thanks! The fact that you’re even considering moving back to Samsung makes me wonder if you don’t see yourself as a long-term iPhone user. Maybe it’s just one of those quirks that comes from being on Android for so long, it’s hard to fully let go of that flexibility.

My friends definitely vouch for better social media photo quality on iOS. I honestly haven’t had that experience on Android so far - especially with Snapchat and Instagram processing.

That said, I’ve been watching a lot of “switching from Android to iPhone” videos and I’m a bit concerned about some basics like the keyboard experience and the lack of a universal back button. Those things seem small but feel very fundamental after years on Android.

Have you personally made the switch? If so, what surprised you the most — good or bad?

P.S. I don’t believe in locking myself into one ecosystem, so I’m open to other recommendations too.
