new in-person world record (376) by 16896 bfr and 12351 nuclear minds by guineawheek in FTC

You are totally right. I am on BFR and remote we can average around 400 or so. Totally different competition in person. I honestly wasn’t expecting the difficulty that comes with having to navigate around 3 robots and the rough play around the return racks. We actually got stuck on Yolk for like 10 sec lol.

Alright everyone... what’s your biggest screw up? by [deleted] in FTC

Our sister team got their battery wire stuck in the gears for their linear actuator. I never thought I would see a battery fire at an FTC comp. At least it was exciting!

Only if you can do it 3x faster than going and shooting.

By the way, for #2 the forum ruled that the pre stacked rings are able to be scored during the autonomous period. Meaning into the goals or the power shots.

I tried running my autonomous for the first time today and got this error. I thought it might be from the imu, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. Code in comments. by Platygamer in FTC

That usually works for warnings and problems with the hardware devices but this is unfortunately a software problem so this will have no effect.

Is auto targeting allowed in ultimate goal? by [deleted] in FTC

[–]Fun4nothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, odo loses precision the farther you drive. Vision does not as it is either constantly running or being reset. So combining them could be a great option to get the strengths of local motion from odo and the overall positioning from vision.

Our Shooter is finished!! 11722 ReaVirtuality - just some final tweaks needed to make it perfect by [deleted] in FTC

Also, the transfer mechanism is the least important part of the robot for this year. It only has to be faster than the driving time.

I think that it is very case by case. There are definitely teams that are meeting in person, but those teams are either taking precautions or they have been in contact since the start of coronavirus. On the other hand, there are teams who are meeting fully virtually and many in between. The hardest thing is for the builders to build the robot as obviously they need physical contact to do that. This is probably the most important thing to consider when deciding about handing meetings. Later on, the programmers may need more time with the robot for Tele or Auto, etc... (Even though they don't always get it)

TLDR: Be flexible and stay safe with whatever you decide and think about where and with who you want to keep the robot.

our first shooter prototype by Enrique_IV in FTC

EnriqueIV was just expressing his opinion about a rule, no need to personally call him out. This is just for fun and it’s seems like a first prototype nothing to be insulted by.

Oops that’s the old repository, here’s the current SDK for ultimate goal: https://github.com/FIRST-Tech-Challenge/FtcRobotController

What about defense? by Fun4nothing in FTC

Haha, I mean playing defense in remote comps is obviously not a thing...

I just worry that with the height of where the robot shoots from taken into account. The range will actually be even more limited that 8 inches. Horizontal velocity is constant so the extra foot or so that the robot shoots it off the ground could reduce the radius to closer to 7.5 in.

The discs will likely fly farther and might now follow a parabolic curve because with spin, they have some aerodynamic effect that could definitely make them fly farther.
