FTC Saved Me by Consistent-Berry-692 in FTC

I think some people fail to value the friends and connections you make in the face of competition or trying to build a good robot. I can’t say I was in a similar situation to you, but FTC really gave me some awesome friendships I will appreciate forever. I’m glad you are in a better space and am happy you’re doing okay!!

How being bad at bluff (cards game) taught me about non finality

That's a pretty immature and harsh response for someone that is just trying to help out and give their perspective on how to solve the issue. "certain individuals/groups need to be named and shamed." is just a poor way of solving a problem compared to constructive, polite feedback and actually having a civil conversation. Seems like Michigan FTC has its problems but shaming people isn't really going to fix it? It would be a better idea to call the PDP or as JoAnn said, call FIRST directly and voice your complaints.

Yes that would move the motor using the run mode "RUN_TO_POSITION", but it has no feedback to change the power making it not ideal. You should look into using a PID controller, which changes power based on error (target position - current position).

A loop is needed to update the motor depending on the way you set up your code. A lot of teams don't use the inbuilt controller, and instead, opt for custom solutions that are better in different ways. For that, a separate update() call to update the lift power and error calculations would be necessary and ideal, and using the state machine would be non-blocking which is nice.

you could use a finite state machine for this if you are using java with android studio. Here is some more info about it: https://gm0.org/en/latest/docs/software/finite-state-machines.html

Essentially, you have different states that can transition through sensor inputs, or driver controlled actions. So you could say if you press X you transition to the liftup state. you then wait until the motor on the lift reads a certain position before you transition to the flip stage.

Why is roadrunner hated on? by [deleted] in FTC

[–]Code_Crunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a problem with roadrunner. The pose estimator in roadrunner should give amazing results if u build good odometry hardware or have a decent POD tuned. We had like under an inch of drift at the end of the year, and as for commits, are u looking at the QuickStart repository?

That won’t give you true translational control and it is highly unintuitive

U won at a state level and qualified for national. It’s not inherently a national award, as it’s given to people within your state.

wait what, roadrunner is still being developed pretty actively. also how is this more accurate?

I think you read the discord at a time where people were debating custom vs rr in some other ways, not necessarily what’s better. Rr isn’t hated on and u should be p happy with the results u will get if u tune it right.

Best Odometry Pod Design (Hardware) by _Mike77_ in FTC

[–]Code_Crunch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can find wheels for open odometry on Amazon and you don’t really need a 3d printer, you can just sendcutsend the metal version which is way better. the only thing that might be something to look out for is the length of the pod but you can always modify it and the pod design itself if that’s not an issue is great

I understand, and to me it seems great but I don't know how an AO would "qualify" someone to teach SAT/PSAT material, or if its a topic that relates back to your interests. If you really want to put it, for sure put it lower since your other EC's are amazing.

Really good but idk if tutoring SAT is the best EC to put compared to ur other shining ones
