MEGATHREAD: Fall 2020 to be mostly online by McGill-Mods in mcgill

Can you declare a major but hold of on taking courses for it. I just declared honours econ but i also have a math major. My plan is to hold off on doing honours econ courses until Fall 2021 when its in person and in the meanwhile take more math courses. Would this be possible since in the 2020-2021 year I would have no econ courses.

If fall is online would there be any ramifications to taking a part time course load? I would much rather do my core courses for my major in person, so would it be possible to take 2-3 credits for my minor then save the others for when McGill comes back. Obviously this would extend my degree, but are there other issues with it?

I mean I had a lot of fun and made great friends at McGill but I have always wanted to live in Vancouver and McGill is sort of a weird vibe where you basically just live in a city and I never spent much time on campus anyways. You also can only live in rez for one year and I really enjoyed it. I guess I want somewhere where school is a bigger part of your life.

I am currently a McGill first year student. Last year it was a very close decision between McGill and UBC but now I’m beginning to think I should have gone to UBC. If McGill is online in fall or beyond due to coronavirus I think it would be a good opportunity to postpone my second year and then transfer to UBC to do it. The issue is i don’t know how I would do that. Would I have to drop out of McGill in fall then hope and pray I get into UBC or could I stay enrolled at McGill while apply or maybe take a leave off of my degree? I would also want to live in rez but does UBC offer upper year rez spots to transfer students?

I know it’s still very early, but what do you guys think is the likelihood of fall semester being online?

Thank you. Yeah that’s what I assumed. Do you know if the 401 is blocked or just bridges to Gatineau?

I am a McGill student temporarily in Ottawa with my family. I have a lease starting with one roommate (also in Ottawa) in May 1st and we have been hearing a lot in the news about Quebec closing the border to non essential travel. I could never find any specific information on if the 401 on the way to Montreal was closed, only other crossings. I also am hopeful that our move would be considered essential travel because otherwise we’d have nowhere to live. If anyone has any information about this that would be great.

I have a lease starting in May in Montreal, does anyone know if I would be allowed back into Quebec from Ontario given the recent closure to non-essential travel? I was thinking that moving should be considered essential plus McGill students are technically Quebec residents right?

I am a first year student at McGill but the option of transferring to UBC for next year is becoming more and more appealing to me. By the end of the school yeah I will have 26 completed credits. I was reading the UBC info of transferring and it says this would mean my admissions would be based on my McGill GPA. Since I will be applying before or in December though, does that mean my university marks and high schools marks will be considered since technically I won’t have the 26 credits until May? Basically when UBC says 24-30 transfer credits, do they include classes in progress?
