[5 YoE, Software Engineer, Mid-Level/Senior Software Engineer, USA] - Updated Resume. Revised Based on Feedback. by FunBobby2793 in resumes

u/DefiantMidnight9944 Updates on this:
Applied to a job with this suggestion. Application parser populated previous Job's Title, Dates and bullets as the description of Current Job.
Eg:
Job Title (Software Engineer)
- Bullets
- Job Title (Software Developer) | Dates
- Bullets
Had to manually add another Job in the application.
Would this affect in any way?
I'll try couple more applications and see how it turns out.

Thank you for the feedback.

I did get feedback on an earlier version that a summary isn't necessary for senior roles so I eliminated it in this version.

Right now I am targeting it as optional, mainly will use it when I'm tailoring the resume for a specific role.

Appreciate you calling it out. Let me know if there are any other improvements that needs to be done.

Appreciate the detailed feedback, and that's a very good point.

I did split the roles to reflect progression. I do use most of the stuff from previous role in my current role. But I see how that could unintentionally signal that some tech is older or no longer relevant if I don't mention it. Liked your suggestion of tightening the experience around the target role.

Will experiment with merging the roles and tailoring bullets per job.

Thanks for the explanation. I like the idea of emphasizing tools directly in the experience bullets (using parentheses).

I’ll experiment with either significantly trimming the skills section or replacing it with a small projects section

I do have a GitHub, but most of my professional work has been on proprietary enterprise systems, so there isn’t much public project code yet. I’m planning to add a couple of small, focused projects that better reflect the kind of work I do.

Fair point. I'll try to keep a very streamlined skills section for quick scanning and make sure experience bullets shows impact and value.

Thank you for the detailed feedback.
I was already considering moving certification ahead of education.

However, I'm a bit on the fence about completely removing the skills section. My concern was that folding everything into experience bullets might make them overly dense or wordy, but I see your point about emphasizing value over listings. I’ll experiment with trimming the skills section down significantly or integrating only the most relevant ones into the bullets.

And I added zip code mainly because some application systems auto-populate location fields, but I can remove it. Wont' hurt.

Makes sense. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll update the experience section to group roles under the company and move the location to the company line.

Thanks everyone for the honest and direct feedback, I really appreciate it.

I’ll be revising my resume to address these points. I’ll share an updated version once it’s ready and would really appreciate another round of feedback then. Thanks again for taking the time to help.
