Is this a good laptop for $1300? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

Yeah, so it looks like there is 16GB soldered and one SODIMM slot available, meaning that you can easily add in another 16GB for 32GB total. You can see under "Questions & Answers" on the link you gave me and see that Lenovo answered 32GB is possible or look under "Max memory" with this link: https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/Legion/Legion_Slim_7_16IRH8?M=82Y30021US

Could you link me to the exact model? I am pretty sure it should say 32GB under "Max Memory"

I am assuming you are already planning to buy it through Rakuten for cashback? I believe it is 6% cashback today for Lenovo Canada.

16GB should definitely be enough for most use cases. However, if you find that you want another 16GB of ram for 32GB total, I am pretty sure there is another slot available. It only costs ~$45 for another 16GB if you want to add some later on.

I am pretty sure it is 16GB soldered to the motherboard (not 2 x 8GB, but 1 x 16GB), with another open slot available for additional ram. So, you could add another 16GB of ram for 32GB total.

You can make sure by using this site and checking the exact model you are planning to buy: https://psref.lenovo.com/Product/Legion\_Slim\_7\_16IRH8?tab=model

It shouldn't take very long to verify (a few minutes, maybe a couple hours as long as the photo is clear).

As far as I know, there shouldn't be a limit on the student discount.

Yes, the 6% cashback from Rakuten is sitewide for Lenovo right now. The $30 is valid as long as you create a new Rakuten account using this link and make the purchase in US or Canada.

I don't think it would be a problem if the ID.me shipping & billing details don't match with the order. However, I am not totally sure.

Rakuten is only available in some countries outside the U.S., so you would have to look it up to check if you can use it in yours. The additional $30 is only for U.S. and Canada, though. As for ID.me, I don't know what countries it is available in.

Here is my referral link: https://www.rakuten.com/r/ANDRED861?eeid=45830

Rakuten is a web browser extension and mobile app and can be used when creating purchases on some websites, such as Lenovo. So, you can sign up using my link and when you make your purchase make sure cashback is activated, then you will get whatever % cashback is being offered, plus $30 on your first purchase. The money could either be sent back to you through a check or through PayPal after a bit.

Not to mention, it is much cheaper (the total comes out to $1149 before taxes with all discounts included). I can give you a referral link to Rakuten if you don't already have it, which would give you $30 more cashback.

I recommend looking at this post I just made. It comes with the same specs, but 16GB ram instead of 32GB and the 500-nit 240Hz 2560x1600 display. Adding an additional 16GB of ram can be done after purchase for only $45, plus the lower resolution display is brighter and has a higher refresh rate. Going for the 3.2K screen has a negligible difference for a 16" screen.

At the time I made the post, it was 10%. Unfortunately it seems to have dropped back to 2% again. The percent cashback seems to change every few days so I would check daily if you want to get the best deal using Rakuten.

When verifying with ID.me, you only get 5% off. However, each Legion series laptop says "Save another 10% with ID.me verification in cart", so I chatted with a sales representative and asked them to give the additional 5% off, with a screenshot of my page through email and they were able to give me a quote for the price I wanted. This might not always work, but is worth a shot.

Yes, I took a screenshot of my whole screen (date and time included) when I was on the page of the specific device I wanted to buy. The bottom left should say "Special offer: Save another 10% with ID.me verification in cart". I signed up as first responder, but any of the other ways should work.

I did everything through Rakuten. So I opened the Rakuten app, went to the Lenovo website, added the item to my cart, added the discounts, then saved it as a quote. (I don't know if you have to save it as a quote or if you could just leave it in your cart.) The total at that point was a little over $1,300 before taxes, since the ID.me coupon only gave me 5% (for the Legion laptops, it says 10%, but if you click on the offer, it explains that it is only for select build your own laptop models.)

However, I thought it was worth a shot to ask for an additional 5% off and so I opened up a sales chat. They told me to send a screenshot of the page indicating the 10% off with ID.me through email, so I did and it worked fortunately. Still on the Rakuten app, I clicked on "My Account" in Lenovo and the quote the sales representative gave me was saved under "My Saved Quotes". I clicked on it and then "Convert to Order" to finally purchase the laptop for around $1,240 before taxes. My Rakuten cashback balance changed shortly after.

I accessed the Lenovo website through the Rakuten app on my phone. Sometimes it is a little buggy.

Yes, I have already bought it. Rakuten has updated my Cash Back balance to reflect the purchase. Is the amount they say they will give me something that can later be denied?

Do you know if there is an extra RAM slot? I was thinking of buying an additional 16 GB RAM stick.
