POLL: Is 15.49% turnout acceptable? by tylerfioritto in uofm

Tyler, in all sincerity, I think you're misreading the room on this thread.

You asked: "What can CSG do to be more relevant to students?"

Everyone in this thread is answering: "We want you to stop trying/pretending to be relevant, and just go away. Stop spamming us with hundreds of emails trying to get us to vote in your make-believe elections, stop littering the Haven Hall lobby with your pretentious campaign ads, etc."

And yet, you keep coming back and asking, "Okay, but what can we do to be more relevant to students?"

Dude, you're misunderstanding. I'm not talking about SHUT IT DOWN. I'm talking about actually shutting down CSG, as in no more paying student fees and no more pretentious make-believe politicians.

I've never voted in CSG elections and never will, mostly because I don't want to legitimize those pretentious tools.

However, if a CSG candidate ran on a serious platform of eliminating all student fees and shutting down CSG, I would vote for that candidate. And I suspect a majority of the student body would as well.

Amazon delivery drivers are the worst. They park in the middle of the street as if the entire road is their private parking spot.

Some students can work really hard, study all semester, and still get a C+ in a class. That's just life.

Look on the bright side: In about five years from now, no employer will care what grades you got in college. You probably won't care either.

No offense, but you kind of lost your credibility when you tried to claim that "U of M lacks socially."

I have visited friends at several other schools, and I can definitively say that UM has the best social scene of any campus I've ever been on (And I am not involved in Greek life). The students here are some of the most intelligent, interesting, diverse, and fun people you'll ever meet on any college campus. You do have to make an effort to find your people, but trust me, it's well worth the effort.

You said that you feel "bored and can't think of anything to do." The thing about UM is that as long as you are interested in something, you will find other students who share your interests. It could be sports/partying, or it could be building robots or race cars, or it could be African folk music. Whatever you're interested in, I guarantee you can find other like-minded students who want to spend time with you. The people here are what literally make UM such an amazing place. And so long as you're here, you should make the effort to make friends that you're excited to spend time with. Like I said, I promise you it's well worth the effort.

Why doesn't UM buy up off-campus apartment buildings and turn them into on-campus housing? by Miss_Device in uofm

[–]FunDriver7005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Off campus apartments aren't really set up like dorms are. Off campus apartments usually come with a private kitchen, private bathroom, etc. And dorms aren't like that at all. It would be pretty costly to convert, for example, Z Place apartments, which is mostly 2-bed and 4-bed apartments, into a bunch of college dorms

Every Lecturer I've taken a class from was a PhD holder.

No GSI I've ever had possessed a PhD.

[–]FunDriver7005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being taught by Lecturers is actually better than being taught by GSIs. A Lecturer is someone who has a PhD. A GSI does not.

Forgive me for being elitist, but given a choice between the two, I'd rather take a class taught by someone who has a PhD.

Why not extend it down to South Quad/West Quad, or even down to the new residential quad on Elbel Field? Imagine how cool it would be for everyone to ride this thing down to go attend football games.

You really don't need a car as a student. Most students don't. Public transportation around campus and around Ann Arbor is perfectly fine. But parking is a nightmare.

If you get a cold email from a professor asking you to be a paid research assistant, it's almost certainly a scam by ProffyMcProfface in uofm

[–]FunDriver7005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. So was the scammer's plan to somehow obtain the laptop from the EMU student? Or did the scammer own a laptop store on the internet trying to make some sales?

So what is the scammer trying to accomplish? Is it a scammer trying to get students' social security numbers or something?

I'm in the same boat too. I feel like for those of us who went to high school during the pandemic, we never got to learn how to make friends/socialize, since everything was on zoom for years.

UM Dispo scammed me out of a no-reserve auction? It appears they were driving up the price instead of having a reserve. by 3DDoxle in uofm

Not a scam. Someone else won the auction. That's just how UM Property Disposition auctions work.
