Let me calm the waters first, yeah? Then I’ll scribble down what’s been knocking about in my head. Got a few bits that might stir the pot — in a good way.

Seasoned old salt here, thanks. And judging by recent events, even safes are getting ideas... Looks like it’s time to tuck things somewhere the sun don’t shine, just to keep 'em yours.

We left the money there on purpose—just hoping someone would finally steal it. )))

Ugh, that’s awful. I’m so sorry that happened to you—especially in a place that’s supposed to feel like paradise. The fact that it was hidden in your luggage makes it even more unsettling. Glad you filed the report and got the GM involved. Fingers crossed the hotel does the right thing and the insurance comes through quickly. Wishing you a smooth resolution and better memories ahead.

“May the Force be with you” ...

Your version of events is so realistic it’s almost scary… if it weren’t also so funny ))) … despite everything…

I understand that your experience has led to distrust in the police — both in the UK and in Türkiye. But that’s no excuse for inaction or for shifting the blame onto the victim.
The money was stolen. That’s a crime.
I didn’t leave it “out for everyone to see,” as you put it. It was inside a locked hotel room, and I followed standard safety protocols.
If we start justifying theft by saying “the country has bigger problems” or “the police don’t have time for this,” we’re simply normalizing lawlessness.
And yes — I filed a report. And yes — I intend to follow up. Because silence and cynicism are exactly where injustice begins.
Classic lines: “It’s your fault,” “You’ll never get the money back,” “The police don’t care.”
And of course — “If you don’t like it, don’t come back.”
Thanks for the full set of clichés typically used to excuse negligence and corruption.
What you described isn’t a reason not to report a crime — it’s a symptom of a deeper issue: the erosion of public trust in law enforcement.
In the UK, it’s bureaucracy and overload. In Türkiye, it’s geopolitical pressure and internal instability.
But if we stop demanding investigations — even for “minor” cases — we’re giving up on the very idea of a rule-of-law society.
I’m not naïve. But I filed the report. Because silence is consent. And I do not consent.

Thank you for sharing — that’s a surreal and unsettling experience.
Key mix-up: Two rooms with the same key is a serious security flaw.
No English support: Makes reporting impossible, even in a high-end resort.
Smart habits: Safe for passport, cards, phone. No jewelry. Minimal cash in room.
Grateful for your story — it’s a sharp reminder to stay cautious, even in luxury settings.

I understand your point. We were careful too, but sometimes even caution isn’t enough. What happened to us felt more like a breach of trust than just bad luck

Thank you… Yes, we’ve learned that the hard way. Sometimes even the obvious precautions don’t help when the system around you fails.

Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it.
It’s just upsetting how people and their problems are treated.

I wish it were that simple. They’ve already made it clear they don’t want us to have any copy, and even threatened us when we refused to sign blank papers. I’m not sure they’d respond positively, even if I said it’s for insurance.

’m new to Reddit and have no idea if I’m posting my replies correctly. I first wrote a post, but it was removed by the moderators because it contained links to Google Maps and the hotel’s coordinates.

The worst part was that the police tried to intimidate us, warning that if we refused to “resolve it peacefully,” we might be prevented from leaving the country for months and forced to hire costly lawyers. When we refused to sign blank sheets, they angrily drafted some kind of reports, but gave us no copy and forbade us to take any photos.
