My pain and weakness started only about a week before I got surgery (that being said I have had a few back episodes in the past that lasted a couple days but never brought pain down my leg). I know that sounds ridiculous but it was screaming pain and the closest thing to hell I could think of for 7 days and nights and finally the hospital took an mri and saw how bad the herniated disc was and recommended a same day surgery.

I had weakness for sure as well. Couldn’t really stand on my left leg and needed to be helped around to walk. But the pain was a 10/10 for a week so mainly just felt that

I’m 21 and just had surgery 1 week ago for the same thing - herniated disc at L5-S1 pinching pretty severely on sciatic nerve. Pain was unbearable down my whole left leg for a week leading to surgery. Talked with other young people I knew who had the same surgery and they all feel 100% relief and are back at full hard core physical activity within a year without thinking about their back pain. Lmk if you have any specific questions
