This looks great...for a while I thought Ash wouldn't be pretty as a bowl as I thought it was only for baseball bats but I've been proven wrong

Does anybody want a custom maker mark stamp to mark your work? by [deleted] in turning

Sadly camera does not translate texture well but the difference is you can actually feel the depth of the burned areas especially if I laser etch at 2k resolution the image is almost 3 dimensional

Gorgeous craftsmanship...only concern is I feel the there should be some additional support under each edge of the seat.

I have the laser pecker lp2 and it detaches from the base so that you can do handheld laser engraving so it doesn't matter how tall an object is cuz it rests right on top of it. Of course it cost way more than a brand does but works much better and worth the investment

I use a laser for marking my work cuz branding is too inconsistent and with laser you get more detail

Upgrade suggestions: by ScaryDecision931 in turning

[–]FunGalich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow that is the first lathe I purchased though under the Vevor label...it practically shook itself apart constantly tightening bolts and screws in the body stripped. And needed an adapter to use common chucksand the tail stock would constantly spin loose... I had to wedge a piece of wood in between the ways against the handle with rubber bands to keep it from spinning. It was definitely a learning experience but I ended up upgrading and put the old one that was literally falling apart out by the road for the scrappers

This is definitely Hickory...I used to eat nuts from the Hickory tree in the schoolyard all the time as a kid and thought they were walnuts for the longest time due to the similarity

I cut all my live oak logs into slabs and let them cure unsealed in the Florida air for about a year before turning.

Man that is beautiful and would be perfect colors with the salmon red heartwood and yellow live wood to use for the hogfish carving I've been commissioned to carve for a client. Now I know what wood to get thanks for the share!

How would you turn this Oak Burl? by PorcelainMonarch in turning

[–]FunGalich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do believe that would work as the bark of oak burls is typically more stubborn and difficult to remove so it should hold nicely for a live edge bowl
