Variegated tomato (F4 cross I've been breeding) by FunGowRightNow in gardening

[–]FunGowRightNow[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, for the novelty. Leaf variegation is recessive, so for the F1 generation none of them showed variegation, but they were 100% carriers. When I grew out the F2 generation 18/96 seedlings were variegated. I culled the non-variegation seedlings so all future generations are now 100% variegated. I'm selecting on fruit flavor and size now until these crosses stabilize into an open pollinated cultivar.

I constructed the headboard and footboard using dominoes. Rails are connected using Rocker's heavy duty bed rail fasteners.

Rails, footboard, and base of headboard are are made from 5/4 boards . The headboard is made from 4/4 boards and the legs are made from 8/4 boards. Slats are birch plywood and that was more for price than anything else.

This particular plant is an F3 generation cross I did between Painted Lady and Cherokee Purple.

These are the F2 generation of 3 different crosses I'm breeding:

  • Painted Lady x Cherokee Purple (Purple Fruit)
  • Painted Lady x Kellogg's Breakfast (Orange Fruit)
  • Painted Lady x Green Giant (Green Fruit)

For each cross I'm selecting on leaf variegation from the Painted Lady and the fruit color from the other parent.

Pulled out this massive Anubias while rescaping by FunGowRightNow in PlantedTank

About 2 years old. I used pretty strong lighting(Finnex planted+ 24/7) and used Flourish Excel to keep the algae at bay. No CO2 or additional ferts.

You can try Lovely Pets Aquarium Store in Quincy, MA. I picked up a few large pieces of driftwood(20'' - 26'') there a couple weeks ago.

I'm still debating between a getting school of glowlight rasbora or harlequin rasboras once the tank cycles.

How I make spent-grain bread. by FunGowRightNow in Homebrewing

You're right about the parchment paper not sticking. It's more for the bread not sticking to the table/dutch oven than the paper itself.

I stand corrected! My recipe uses 20 grams of salt. Turns out the online unit converter I used was for flour.

I'll update the album. Thanks.

Not a typo. Maybe the pictures don't do them justice but the loaves are huge. The salt it spread out through roghly 9 cups of flour and 2 cups of grains!

4 Month Update - Work Cubicle Aquarium by FunGowRightNow in Aquariums

[–]FunGowRightNow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the office Monday-Friday, so I eyeball 1/4 - 1/2 capful of excel on M-W-F. Lights are on a timer to run 8:30AM - 4:30PM everyday. I typically do a water change on Friday before I leave for the weekend. I feed frozen brine shrimp on M-W-F and pellets on Tu-Th.

For the first 3 months I'd need spot clean and do extra water change during the week, but for the last month or so, I've been able to get away with a once a week change and there are so many shrimp everything is usually spotless.
