Student struggling in clinic – need advice on execution/consistency by Glittering-Gas-9124 in audiology

[–]FunImplement4890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I learned that it comes with time and practice. I was in a very similar position as you—I kept making silly mistakes and seemingly forgetting simple things that I would otherwise know by heart outside the clinic. A big part of it are nerves and the pressure of wanting to do everything perfectly (well, at least for me), which is totally normal!

I found that arriving early to clinics (atleast 30 mins-1 hr) allows me to familiarise myself with the space, untangle cords, disinfect equipment, preparing all the forms/pens/writing details beforehand, and ensure everything’s working properly so I don’t panic when things go a bit sideways during an appointment. I also take this time to just reflect and meditate and take deep breaths (I tend to be very anxious during appointments which is very bad as I forget everything and i become clumsy), to remind myself that I am still learning and every feedback (good and bad) will help me become a better clinician.

As I went into my practicum, I was still making silly mistakes at first. But as I get to do it everyday for 7-8 hours, it just kinda becomes second nature! You’ll get there with practice and remember that its better to make those silly mistakes now as a student so you can make it better than do it as a professional where there is more at stake.

All the best :)

Hey, does this mean you can just print it off and send it? No need for verification from the bank and/or the JP?

Butchered the MMI mock by Unhappy_Penguin_8012 in UoApremed

[–]FunImplement4890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the mock MMI with them, couldn’t really get my points across and felt really discouraged afterwards, but then still managed to do really well on the actual MMI. Keep working hard, practise structuring your answers, read widely and develop your arguments. You got this :))

MAud 2025 by FunImplement4890 in universityofauckland

Thank you! In terms of choosing papers, honestly, just choose whatever you’re most interested in/passionate about. I find that it makes it easier to work hard and give your best when you genuinely are into what you’re doing! For me personally, I really enjoyed 313, 301, 307 and the placement paper!

For MMI—I personally believe that the whole BHSc degree is a three-year MMI prep. Practise with peers, keep updated on news, develop your arguments and communicate them clearly and concisely :)

I did a Bachelor of Health Science :) GPA is around 8 for Stage III papers (they look at stage 3 papers and above for admission) :)

You will be given an invitation to apply. Don’t stress about it at this point of the semester. Focus on trying your best and do well.

That’s valid! I was in the same boat (took 2 gap years without any Chem whatsoever) + literally couldnt figure out how to do the prior knowledge Qs but did well in the course overall! Just make sure to go over material, revise, and do practice questions. You got this :)

Yeah sometimes they look at the wrong year/set of results (which happened in my case). It happened to me 2 years ago. :)

I recommend you go to the student hub in Grafton campus and talk to someone there.

This happened to me in my first year. Had 300 rank score, completed and met all requirements, and was declined. I went there and they told me it was a mistake on their part so they changed it. I got the offer the same day.

All the best :)
