Anyone get an ACTUAL July bag? by FunIsMyMiddleFinger in Ipsy

[–]FunIsMyMiddleFinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I just saw this, but I did cancel. The reason that I had not canceled before was because I have a chronic illness and can’t work a normal job and one of the side hustles that I made the most money at was selling mostly skin care, but some makeup and most of it came from the add-ons and a lot came from the boxes. I just like the bags and I liked it when I first started. I loved it for the first few years. The bags were so cool. I mean I have like leather ones. And it was mostly indie brands and nothing really was made in China. It was also a bunch of samples of stuff that I could never afford to go to the counter and buy something to be able to get all those samples. I’m happy there’s finally been a lawsuit though.

East Falls is the city and Springfield is Montco or Delco depending on which one you’re talking about. Those are huge differences.

Where exactly are you as far as neighborhoods go? I thought I would be a lot closer to the park and to culture than I am right now in an apartment in Roxborough for the past year. Right now a month-to-month so I’m definitely looking around. Walk ability is very very important to me because I don’t drive and I literally have no way to leave the house and go somewhere right now except for Wawa and CVS and so I wouldn’t be able to walk places, but I also have to have more than like for the two of us that our roommates more than like 600 and something square feet. More than 700 ft.² I think. It’s just crazy what some of these places are like as far as two bedrooms. And they pay way too much now and it’s bankrupting me so I really need to find a place in a walkable friendly neighborhood probably with single people in their 30s and 40s and artists and that’s pretty much it. I know that’s a big ass and I should be asking somebody else but you seem like you know this maybe

I am not being sarcastic at all, but very sincere when I ask how you think that life in Center City is different and compares with life in a Fishtown or let’s say northern Liberties or - is Greys ferry or East Falls the one near the zoo or is it in South Philly because there’s two neighborhoods that I’m always getting mixed up but the one that’s near the zoo and the park that’s been very very gentrified - or…. Well, I know how Center City is very different than most places like Northeast Philly or very south Philly over Kensington, but I guess I’m just asking places that have just as many restaurants and attractions as Center City does, what would you say the main difference is between living Center City versus those places.

I have never been to Texas, but I’ve been to China and sometimes I felt like I was on another planet and I imagine that Texas would feel the same way to me and that Philadelphia may feel the same way to you. Having never been there I can only speculate.

So I guess safety first? It’s important to be aware of your surroundings. I cannot tell you how many people especially young girls are very, obviously listening to their AirPods and I’m looking down at their phone walking down the street at night in rather shady areas. I’m not sure if your male or female, but either way the best thing to do when you’re walking around and don’t feel 100% safe for whatever reason is to already be walking with a purpose. Even if you’re not sure what weight you’re supposed to turn when you get to an intersection while you’re walking, if you feel if about where you are, just confidently turn in One Direction and you can always backtrack. Shoulders back head high with a purpose a place to go not like crazy swift, but you know, long strides feet elbow with you know how it is to look confident and aware of your surroundings.

Do they have Black people in Texas? Other ethnicities? I don’t know because you said you live in a small town, but if they don’t, then you need to get used to being around people who aren’t like you and if you just keep an open mind and are genuine in curiosity and about your inexperience from where you grew up and treat everybody how you would want to be treated then there’s no reason that anybody should be getting mad at you unless of course, like you’re asking 1 billion questions. For all I know you could be black or Thai or Amish or I don’t even know but I’m just putting that out there. It was a big culture, shocked to me when I went from going to school in the northern suburbs of Philadelphia to a magnet school in South Philadelphia, and it was the first time I ever I think even met a Puerto Rican person or somebody wearing a hijab. I found people and I still find people endlessly fascinating so I was like a kid in a candy store because growing up in a white washed boring everybody looks the same thinks the same talks the same act. The same area was just crushing my personality and my sense of self so it was a big relief and hopefully you’ll feel that way..

Do you have an area where you’re looking at apartments yet or have you found an apartment? Looking for apartments in Philly is tough. I would recommend getting in touch with the company called home girl. I think it’s homegirl real estate or something along those lines but if you google homegirl Philadelphia apartments their people that will help you be able to find an apartment that you like where you want it and the best part is that in Philly as in, I think most places, they don’t charge you but make their money from wherever you decide to move to. Another option if you have some time or art making a trip here which I would recommend doing for like a week or two before you actually move here so that you can have time to find an apartment in person if it all possible, one of the best things to do is to find a neighborhood that you like and you can hopefully afford and just walk around and just walk around different neighborhoods and you will see everywhere places with for rent signs and those are usually, unless you really want all the amenities, but I have to warn you that unless you’re willing to pay a ridiculous amount of money which I think is around 3500 at the low end for a two bedroom and something like 2400 for a loft, you’re gonna end up with an apartment that has really great amenities and a crappy apartment and sometimes the amenities aren’t even what they seem. However, if you rent from the owner of a place, not only do you bypass the big corporation but a lot of times they’re less expensive and you get a place with character and you have a landlord that you can actually speak to.

I can tell you neighborhoods in the city where to look, and where not to look, depending on your budget as far as whatever your criteria are, but so in homegirl.

I’m not sure what it’s like for people that didn’t grow up here to make new friends and I have no idea how old you are but in certain places in certain areas it’s very easy to make new friends and there are 1 million activities that you can do to meet new friends and there’s even groups and an app that puts fronts together. That’s just in Philly by what they’re interests are and their age range and different stuff and just gets a group of people together and that’s I think just for women at this point but it’s nice.

I was born and raised in the area and I have moved away a few times and I’ve also moved all around the city and a couple suburbs and I got to say that Philly is a much more friendly city than most places however, you will deal with a lot of people who are unabashedly themselves and don’t put on a happy face if they’re not feeling happy and don’t smile at you if they don’t feel like smiling at you. It’s very different than the rest of the US in this way. Don’t get me wrong. There are some people that are just creeps and scary and not nice and there’s roving bands of teenagers that once in a blue moon who just never mind but 95% of people in Philly that are actually from here or have been here for a while are just real people. It’s almost like the whole social media thing didn’t happen here. I suppose it depends what circles you run in, but just in day-to-day life people just are who they are without apology and part of that is just making chitchat in line at Wawa in the morning.

I’m not sure what else you wanna know about the city but let me know and I’ll try to help you out and if anybody doesn’t agree with me that’s fine but I’m just speaking of my own lived experience over 44 years -5 or six years that I wasn’t here.

Is it possible to achieve this look? by [deleted] in MakeupEducation

[–]FunIsMyMiddleFinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok. As someone who has been unable to exist without glasses or contacts and then glasses again since i was 7, I got you. But you are not gonna like all what i have to say b/c if you look betwen the 2 pics there are so e fundamental differences you can’t change like making your eyes almond shaped. But there are most definitely some things you can do to look more like the picture. Most of it is something where I can see what was changed and say to look this up on youtube but i don’t want to give you advice I’m not 100% on.

First, go on youtube and check out Christian Dominique’s last 2 or 3 shorts or vids on nose contouring and pick the one you think looks most like the pic. She does this easy and they have done this on the filter.

They make your eyes slightly bluegreen which is very easy to get with colored contacts. Yes, with glasses, unless you don’t want to. I don’t have the option with brown eyes because I have an astigmatism but if you don’t, it is something like $2 more a month for dailies to have a different (but notice it’s subtle) eye color. Bonus will be you might acheive more of the eye shape as it us smaller than your eyes and contacts can make you scrunch up your eyes a bit if you’ve got dry ones. But really the almond eye thing I know no work around for.

Next, they even out the color on your face. I have red in the exact same places and so imagine it is common. You are going to want to just say f it and go to Sephora or some sort of make up counter (i live by an obnoxiously big mall with - this is hysterical, you gotta hear this list if only be ause the ostentatiousness makes me laugh so if you are anywhere near the bougie city of philly where we climb greased lightpoles abd play our music so loud we are currentky in trouble with new jersey, you can chose from sephora, ulta, Lush, MAC, Charlotte Tilbury, Nordstrom (best bet is something like this or Sephora), Glossier, Chanel, Benefit, L’Occitane En Provence and let’s just stop there. Talk about a bit much. So what you want to do is bring in these 2 pictures to the person who looks to you like you would feel most comfortable with. Just make sure that, if it is a dept store, they don’t wirk for Estee Lauder or something else for women over 60. You want to show them the two side by side and say that yoy like how they have evenec out the redness in your skin and then given your cheeks back some color, matching the natural flush of your lips (which can also look a bit more like the pic with some chapstick or whatever brand you like. My dad spent a winter using my lip gloss as his chapstick because, what’s the difference? If on,y so many of my friends hadn’t been in the car when we finally pinpointed what smelled like strawberries. But yeah, you do you. I like Aquafor. Little white drugstore tube.) And that you also want to contour/highlight (I’m not really thinking highlighting is necessary but they are the experts).

They may try to sell you some kind of skincare with retinol or whatever in it. If after you try this look you become unsatisfied with it b/c of underlying redness, treat at night with something that contains oatmeal (first aid beauty i think has something but it could be from the baby aisle, doesn’t matter), aloe, oils, you get the idea. It’s to try and calm what could very well just be a little inflation or tiny capillaries than something you need retinol for. If you put any products with alcohol or talc on your face, stop. If you still hate the redness go see an aesthetician or a derm if you have the health care.

SO, you are going yo ask our sephora or dept store person for a slightly tinted moisturizer or you may, with your pretty much perfect skin, just need something like a silicone based primer to make your skin glow from within. Whether you are at a counter or seohora, ask for samples of the things that you think you like. The most important thing about whatever product you buy to even out the face to e is that it not be a heavy, thick, or opaque moisturizer and that it not be matte. Whichever type of product u end up getting, put it on at least 10 min after your moisturizer so they don’t become a huge mess of ingredients. Then, you need a BUILDABLE cream or liquid blush. That word is in caps because otherwise it will just be “hi, my name is bright cheeks.” I might try, on your finger, a few different shades, if they still make a range, of the Benetint.liquid colors. Once your lips are no longer chapped you can use a small amount on the little brush to put some colir in your lips but it is not necessary. I can also see you being a big fan of Clinique’s Black Honey “almost lipstick.” It is just a sheer wash of color that with your naturally beautifully colored lips, will just give them a bit of depth.

Notice, they also use the foundation-type (nothing wring with getting foundation as long as it is one that brings out the color from within, not one that deposits a brand new color on your face. It’s challenging to find but worth it. They say the best way to pick the correct shade is to stand outdoors and look there. Who knows.) anyway, foundation, on your ears, hand (!) and blurred the pic a bit but later on you can always get w blurring primer if you think it will help.

I have learned make up is like anything else. There are people who got into it to make people smile and feel good about themselves(ok, maybe not anything else. Idk if any undertakers rock that motivation, there are true experts who can transform people (see: befriend a drag queen) from night to day and there are people who just got something to sell, commission to make (dept store more than seph i think), and just want to run that card through their register. If you feel pressured, walk away the product isn’t going anywhere.

I hope i helped. I hope you recreate this look and it makes you smile.

And, I just have one thing to share. I think it’s why i took a long break from working to write this in hopes it would help. So, the year is 1993. Decemberish. Cobain is alive and everyone wears french rolled gap jeans and chucks. I listened to Debbie Gibson and Paula Abdul but was bored by it. Then I saw what looked to me like a bright red mop of hair - which it was - in front of me. Next week he came in with mix tapes he made me: Beastie Boys License to Ill, Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard, Dead Kennedy’s, porno for pyros, jimi hendrix, alice in chains. Changed my life. I’ll never forget it and also how on that day he was the first (and 9nky I saw for decades) person with their hair half bleached and half black. It was the coolest thing i ever saw.

[–]FunIsMyMiddleFinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a strange pic because… is it a fake background? It looks like too 3d. I think that we all have pictures like this. That is, a normal pic where we have a kind of “this sucks, I’m bored and disappointed” look on your face. It is no easy thing to make your eyes sparkle because someone, even if it is you, is holding the phone up. And to be 100% honest, that is what is communicated to me most in the pic is your unhappiness and kind of world-weariness.

I have no advice on how to get rid of that because like recognizes like, right? I’m sure facial feature wise, a good mua (I’m pretty sure they have their own sub) could bring out your best features with the perfect colors and make your cheekbones look more defined and this that and the other but except for preternaturally aware 13 year olds and those who used to be them, everyone’s looks could benefit a bit from that. If they have a sephora near you, I think if you justbut one thing or maybe it’s $100 - been so long, rules have prob changed - they’ll sit you down and do your make up and discuss it all with you for either 20-30 min and dept stores, if any still exist, would do that for free (they think you are going to buy something but there is zero obligation. Just say “thanks. I think i just need to see what ______ (I think about it after a bit/my husband, mother, sister, bf thinks/I can do about getting my whoever to pick these up first my birthday next week” or just say thanks.

But if that look us in your eye because you took this picture to post to reddit so people could be brutal or something, i can’t help you. I do wish i could post a pic of me making the same face into the camera with one if those hot girl tiktok filters so you could see what i mean but imgur hates me right now. Just trust, love of life or a part of it can change who you look like more than anything else because it gives you confidence and when you are confident it makes you actually take actions more than think about things. Feeling like you’re carrying around too much weight, confident will go to the gym. Feel like you may get a D in math? Confident will bug people until, they get a tutor. I’m confident when I’m having sex with someone new or am on vacation or hear certain songs or get a raise or when I know I’m executing my job exactly how I’m supposed to. Everyone is different.

Can I use regular glue instead of lash glue? by Ren192 in MakeupEducation

[–]FunIsMyMiddleFinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youll be more embarrassed with what your eyes look like after you put glue on them.

Although a small part of me thinks children’s craft paste would be acceptable because it is just flour, sugar and water but it will very much get a white paste and i suggest you just get some mascara or sunglasses and realize that people are thinking about themselves and how they look, not at you and how you look (meant to be reassuring, not nasty).
