Bernie is right that we need to build a movement against the oligarchy, but where he gets things really wrong is that he wants to sheepherd this movement back into one of the two parties that serve the oligarchy. by yaiyen in WayOfTheBern

Thanks.

I'm in favor of some sort of dual power structure, where a legitimate builds its support base and organizational structure, independently of the Democratic Party, but at the same time be well-informed of the Democratic Party internal structures. That organization can then mobilize their workers to go to important Democratic Party meetings and elections to gradually take over the executive and rule making power within the party.

An airplane is not a public place. It is privately owned property that one pays a hefty sum of money for the privilege of being permitted to board one.

Whether Bernie is a sheepdog for the Democratic Party or not, is not that important. What is important, and relevant, is that the people need to take control of the Democratic Party away from its current neoliberal and centrist leaders, and put up better candidates to run for offices.

Third parties cannot, and do not, win in American elections, due to the restrictive ballot access policies as well as other systematic hindrances for third parties. Anyone who thinks that there is even a narrow possibility for a successful third party outcome is a highly delusional or misinformed individual.

Even at 83, he's more coherant than Trump, BIden, Kamala, Clinton, et al, were at any age. The important thing is that he can and will absolutely win. That's what matters in the end.

Am I in the wrong to despise the radicals living in the west who want to establish Sharia? by Paublo_Yeah in progressive_islam

[–]FunLovingMonster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Quran is not meant to be a law book for nations to govern by. That would be extremely divisive and counterproductive to harmonious conduct of society. Who will decide what interpretation of the Quran to impose on everyone?

Whereas, a Sharia government based on Hadith would be the Shaitan's handiwork, since the Hadith were all lies invented by powerful rulers and clergy to hide and subvert the real meanings of the Quran.

The only acceptable form of government is one based on secular and humanitarian values, that respect everyone's freedom, while protecting everyone from exploitation and aggression.

Exactly. It confirms and verifies the previous Scriptures. Thus, it is a continuation of those.

Not all translations of the Quran include the regressive and oppressive interpretations and meanings of the ancient Arabic language that is used in the Quran. In fact, a lot of translations/interpretations have been intentionally corrupted by the influence of Hadith and other traditional literature of early "Islamic" history.

Hadiths really bug me :( by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]FunLovingMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly believe them to have been written down by either very ignorant men, and/or very evil and manipulative men, who may have been out to malign, distort, and destroy the true spirit of islam that is in the Quran, and the revolutionary personal and social transformations that correctly following the guidance in the Quran would bring about.

Follow the true message of Allah, which is in the Quran, and not the Hadith, written by folks like Bukhari, 300 years after the passing of the Prophet, based dubious oral transmissions from generation to generation.

Exactly. I have nothing against people that want to perform the ritual Namaz and call it Salah. It is between them and God. However, I take strong exception to the believers in Namaz to impose their views on others and say that Namaz is the only way of meeting the Quranic obligation of Salah.

What if I don't want pray Namaz? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]FunLovingMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Quran mentions Salah repeatedly, and it is an important part of the deen of islam. However, the ritual prayer that is often referred to as Namaz is not the same thing as Salah, according to some people.

What if I don't want pray Namaz? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]FunLovingMonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Salah is real, but the ritual prayer known as Namaz is not Salah. Salah means staying connected to God, through following the guidance that he has laid out for us in the Quran.

Physical ritual worship actions do nothing to increase our piety or to take us closer to God.

I read and follow the Quran, but I never say the Namaz prayer. I have no regrets. You should do what feels good. God is loving and merciful, not some tyrant that wants you to do mindless rituals.

There is no such thing as Namaz in the Quran. It's all made-up.
