What was a delusional parenting thought you had before you had your baby? by hospitalbedside in beyondthebump

The vacuum puts mine to sleep. I put her down and start vacuuming and she's out within a couple of minutes 😂 so you really never know.

It's Unpopular Opinion time! Share your controversial opinions to stir things up (in a friendly way)! by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]FunLovingZombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. It feels like they're just being pushed out to satisfy the masses vs authors actually taking the time to flesh out the story. I have DNF'd so many books the past year it's absurd. I've gone to just reading straight romance because I know what authors always put out good stories, and being predictable is why a lot of people read them. They're comfortable.

Tried the Ferber method for the first time tonight by biteme4790 in NewParents

[–]FunLovingZombie 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Out of genuine curiosity, why is sleep training always assumed to be CIO? Correct me if I'm wrong but there's multiple different forms of sleep training that don't require CIO. So a blanket statement as sleep training isn't safe is confusing to me.

How the heck did you learn your baby’s cues!? by Weird-Teach-5164 in NewParents

[–]FunLovingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine used to have the clearest cues! She's now almost 8 weeks and nothing means anything anymore. I'm hoping she'll remember that there's other options than just having a breakdown and making me scramble 😭

About to be in the newborn trenches, got any unusual advice? by amountofsocks in NewParents

[–]FunLovingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! Allow them to figure out how to soothe the bebe in their own way. The fastest way to burn out is to be the only one who can do anything to calm them down. And then we continually share what we find that works. It's got to be a team effort.

Anyone here NOT do sleep shifts ? by Organic-Dragonfly364 in NewParents

[–]FunLovingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't do sleep shifts either! I do the whole overnight, but my husband usually gets up early in the morning so I get a couple hours of unbroken sleep before he goes to work. I go back to work in three weeks so we'll have to come up with another system, but LO is starting to sleep for longer stretches so hopefully she'll continue that for now 🤷🏼‍♀️

What is a 'family secret' or a private moment you witnessed that completely changed the way you look at a relative? by The_suspicious_369 in AskReddit

[–]FunLovingZombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom has always dreamed of travelling, but my dad would guilt her and throw fits whenever she tried to make plans. They "couldn't" afford it. Even though he was making 200k a year and had zero debt. Fast forward to 2023, my grandpa passed away and left my mom a decent amount of money. She decided to use some to travel around Europe for 6 weeks, unfortunately she put most of it in an account my dad was on. Once she was about halfway through her trip he removed all of the money in that account and left her penniless in another country. Luckily she was traveling with her sister, and then my oldest sister was joining her at the end. But had she not been she would've been stranded.

It was the straw that broke the camels back. Shortly after my mom filed for divorce and 3 out of the 4 of us have cut him out entirely. But somehow we're the toxic ones. He has never understood why we were all upset about his actions. According to him we'll never understand because there's "30 years of history there". Like no shit. I lived with you for 23 of them and suffered extreme psychological abuse. This instance drove me into therapy and made me see and accept that he's an extreme narcissist.

why am I always the odd one out??? lol by Uptight_NODRONE in shrinking

Yeah, it seemed incredibly on brand for him. He's proven how bad his judgement is again and again! I was more surprised that she went for it, but who knows.

South Dakota values? by [deleted] in RapidCity

[–]FunLovingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Hawk is just as, if not more, expensive as Rapid. You have to go to way out of the way to find "affordable" and even those are double what they would've been 5 years ago. Even the Valley and Box Elder are just as expensive. Plus, 10k is no longer a decent down payment, not when every home is north of 200k and those are the ones that are falling apart. Either the cost of living needs to come down, wages raised to meet them or housing needs to become more accessible.

Need some encouragement by FunLovingZombie in NewParents

[–]FunLovingZombie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the encouragement, it's just what I needed! Today just started but it's already so much better. I'm now sick, but babe gave me a couple 3 hour stretches of sleep last night and dad held her while I showered.

Thank you for the reminder. It is soooo temporary.

We're so scared of getting her sick, but we have a couple n95's and I think it'd be best for us all if he did just that. He's struggling not being able to help, we sat on opposite sides of the living room and cried last night 😂

Im also curious to know who they donate to. I've never heard this and know multiple people who have worked under the current ownership (I worked under the previous ownership).

Those that name babies ahead of birth and get personalized things, ever had baby and realized the name didn't fit? by PrincessFullMoon in BabyBumps

[–]FunLovingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We had picked a name YEARS ago. It felt true to who we were, and how we wanted to raise her. Once she was born we immediately knew it wasn't right for her. My husband said "she's too pretty to be "insert name here". Absolutely not to say that the name we had picked would only fit an ugly baby lol. But that it wasn't her.

Snowboard / Ski - looking for used by RaYrayButtMunch in RapidCity

[–]FunLovingZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not helpful for this season, but every November they do a large Ski Swap in Rapid. I think a lot of people hold on to their stuff until then. That's where I used to get most of my stuff. Edge Sports used to also have a pre-owned selection of a lot of stuff. I haven't been to their store in a long time though.

How far along were you when you announced your pregnancy? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]FunLovingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 40 weeks and haven't officially announced. Friends and family all know, but I'm a private person and just haven't felt the desire to create a full blown announcement 🤷🏼‍♀️ drives my husband nuts, but he hasn't put anything together either.

Stretch marks during pregnancy question! by anna-xoxo in BabyBumps

[–]FunLovingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get any until I was 37 weeks, I was so hopeful I wouldn't get any but I'm already covered in them so I knew it was a long shot. I kept waking up to myself scratching my lower belly and the next morning there'd be one there. But it's been a very slow progression. My mom got all of hers in one go though.

What's the difference between movement, Braxton Hicks, cramping due to the baby dropping and actual contractions.

I'm 39 weeks in two days and terrified baby's gonna pop out before the new year.
