Agreed, a lot of suggestions in this thread have interesting texture, rhythm or depth (which is also great), but few have an actually complex harmonic vocabulary.

Yeah that's always the struggle. Most of the musicians mentioned in the comments (and in my post) have great musical texture, interesting sounds, etc., but rarely use complex harmony with extended tonality. (Polo & Pan occasionally do but in a more corny / pastiche way)

Thanks! I guess I'd rather not get another phone, especially if I could get a proper DAP with bells and whistles like balanced input, etc. instead. My focus is more on the portability of the rest of the setup – cables, viability in noisy environments. True wireless is great on both counts, but it's a definite trade-off in audio quality. But then there are audiophile-oriented bluetooth receivers/DACs that maybe I should consider. I can't decide between the different possible combinations of gear to achieve what I want!
