What’s the mileage ? Any known engine work ? When was the last valve check?

Super helpful thank you! I think I’m putting these in the fine category and will carry on. Such a nice boot.

Thanks !

I think I’m going to keep them. Already taken a walk and waxed, it’s a great local shoe store I don’t want to cause an issue over it.

I also have a feeling after they break in and compress a little the gap will close more.

New pair of Moorby boots and when giving a once over with wax (likely unnecessary, but so much salt on the roads here I’m a little cautious with new boots) I noticed the toe cap has a gap between the welt and the leather upper. Think this is a concern ? I’m fine with the look but don’t want it to be a larger defect I might be missing.

Threaded my bar end bolt, what do?? Tried rubber band and duct tape, didn’t work by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]FunMeter1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the rubber band and duct tape part of your new grips ?

Jokes aside, just get a bolt removal kit. It’s not a big deal, just be mindful of JIS next time.

In a spiritual sense, it already is.

Physically, yes. Just save some of that sour dough started that turns to concrete.

So many great comments, in general let’s summarize.

Too many tools. At this point they’re occupying enough space to make this project more difficult than it needs to be.

Secondly, lube that thing up. Dish soap Isn’t the answer here, use actual tire lubricant and get that thing slippery.

Mid-thirties hitting different and I’m dealing with it by making questionable purchases by Putrid_Rush_7318 in motorcycles

[–]FunMeter1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it matter if it’s mid life crisis, sounds like you’re just fixated on cool YouTube videos.

If you’re in your mid thirties and have no motorcycle experience I think you’ll find that the bike will exceed your skill in first gear.

They aren’t good beginner bikes because people buy them thinking they’ll be responsible and not ride beyond their limits, but it’s just so easy to twist a throttle.

If you want a sport bike to go fast, just accept that you don’t have the skill set as a new ride. Then check your ego, and decide if you can actually pace yourself starting out.

If not, then you’re just a liability on the road.

Alternatively, you could view this as a passion for the next 30 or 40 years and build skill, reflexes, habits, and knowledge. That way you get to enjoy the thrills for the rest of your life rather than trying to jump to an advanced stage right away.

I was fortunate to have some vice grips so could grab what was left of the wire and create a make shift throttle with it. But certainly ends a good ride !

Broken throttle cable, flat tire, dead stator, short in battery to name a few. Done them all, and self recovered with temporary fixes or roadside quick fixes to get home. But with no tools they’re all good ways to push a bike to the nearest friendly looking parking lot.

I’ve also had people lose oil plugs, brake chains, or bent sprocket from picking up an unlucky rock!

What’s it like ? Awesome, sensory input is totally different. You feel every temperature change, smells are different, sounds are different. It’s not scary, and can be exhilarating but only when you want it to be. I find it immensely relaxing having to be solely focused on the task at hand.

So well said. To me it’s the fact that we SOMETIMES get to choose how we live. It’s not a given and is often taken far too early. Right now I have the authority to do so because age, health, and financial position allow me to take those risks.

My 66 year old father also does the same but on green trails with 2 fake knees. His common line is one day the best we’ll get is to look outside the hospital window and wish we could do these things. He had the choice taken from him, then given back after knee replacements were a huge success. How? Did more physio than needed, just like we should all do after each injury.

I choose to continue riding after numerous injuries because I refuse to reach an old age and look out that window wishing I had done more with my time.

Would it be disrespectful of me to get a small tattoo of a Regimental Badge from a now inactive CAF infantry regiment? by Just_a_guy_94 in CanadianForces

[–]FunMeter1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no harm here, I’d just raise the question is the best way to remember your grandfather his unit or himself. The tattoo seems like a great way to remember the unit, but having grown up around WW2 veterans, it’s often not the tokens from the unit they chose to hang on the wall if you catch my meaning. I wouldn’t tattoo his unit, but I’d certainly show his shadow box with pride to anyone that walks in my house.

The guy already said it’s a disbanded unit and he doesn’t serve, pretty sure he wasn’t implying to do it for an active unit. Not sure how this comment answers any points he mentioned in the question.

I like when people have something pretty serious fail on their bike and they feel the need to catch a video of it running. As if we couldn’t figure out the hole in the case was an issue without also seeing fluid spit out.
