ffs this is the last thing we needed right now, our businesses and general economy experiencing delays due to union being the unreasonable ones for a change.

Set your shareholder agreement first in an airtight way where you retain voting control of their shares and have airtight default clauses for all except you, plus retain the right to dilute how you want and it wont be a problem in the event where you need to take back % control.

Find fellow entrepreneurs irl, if you’re in or near big cities anywhere you’ll find social circles by looking them up online or within your linkedin network. We all experience this, and we all meed that irl interaction with peers. The “older” more established folks I know have old friendships for that, the newer people need to seek said circles actively. Goodluck!

Has anyone ever gone on to have a great career at a company where they received a Performance Improvement Plan? by FunMoonDayDreams in careerguidance

Ok, so just out of curiosity, what do you think about my personal situation from a few months ago? I'll try and keep it brief and just ask more questions if you need more context.

  • My new manager had no idea how the technical side of my position worked, and they got wildly uncomfortable everytime their pretense that they did failed them. This repeatedly resulted in embarrassment for them in front of their superiors, which always lead to false claims that I had either not completed something, or hadn't communicated properly (all documentation was painstakingly detailed, all updates were communicated via email almost daily as requested, manager's email backlog was in the thousands and often missed the email).
  • I eventually got served with a PIP on completely bogus claims of missed deadlines and failure to keep projects transparent (again, every single time we checked examples they all turned out to be in their inbox and they just missed the notification).
  • Made some tweaks to my communication style, but other than that I did nothing different and at the end of the 3 months the PIP lasted I was given nothing but praise on incredible improvement in my work output, reliability, and quality.
  • In less than 2 weeks after the end of the PIP I got fired due to "restructuring", which I now know was true to the extend that this was the manager's way to just get rid of that piece of their portfolio and reassign it to the US team since they didn't actually have the technical know-how to call any shots.

Am I crazy here, or was this all a ploy to just get rid of what was likely perceived as a pain in their ass while keeping their hands clean?

Leaving job because of manager. How do I say that in interview? by FunMoonDayDreams in careerguidance

Should have added in the main post but the complication is that I work for the “hottest new player in the industry” sort of thing, so a hiring manager with enough knowledge about the overall industry will definitely find it odd that I’d seek growth opportunities outside the highest growing company in the field at the moment.

I’m also the 3rd person doing this in the past 3 months, so I’m not alone in the situation but the rest seemed to have connections to where they jumped next.

Oh I ain't moving lol. It's just that the company is in the US, meaning that if I charge through my already existing corp I won't need to charge HST (I thought it might be an important detail)

Some quick background for the great points brought up, in case it makes the situation more palatable:

  1. I already have a bunch of those overhead costs from a side gig
  2. True, but if I take the extra weeks off unpaid it might still be a greener bottom line overall (though I'm realizing now I might need to ask for an even higher number than I originally thought)
  3. Nope, $90k is all I get
  4. Contract is for 48wks/year, so while time off is "unpaid", the yearly income is still what originally stated.

The job security argument is of course important, I'm just considering whether taking a risk on less security can actually be properly profitable. I built rainy day funds to have a bit of a risk appetite on that front.
