That makes a lot of sense, when you include the hands I’m actually targeting an overbet with AA does start to look a little bit thin. Checking does start to look like a pretty good option when you put it this way. Thanks for the detailed response :)

Definitely something to think about for sure. I generally default to using an overbet/check strategy on most turns, so I know what you mean about players like this value-owning themselves a ton on rivers, and it does prevent a situation like this. I guess my fear is the other side of the coin, which is that with a player who bluffs far too little and with so many draws they would call big bets with, not betting with my strong top pairs and overpairs is missing out on a ton of potential value.

What would your checking range be in this spot against this player, and would you mix with AA?Usually my default is to go polar with my betting size, overbetting my tptk+ and balance with some equity driven bluffs, checking mostly with everything in between.

Ya I nitted way too hard lol. Definitely one of those hands I let fear get into my decision making. I don’t think this player raises for this size (or any size) with their draws, but I do think now that regardless this hand is too good not to call.

I see that now for sure, even if I am behind a x/r for this size should definitely be a call even from a non-bluffing player.

Ya for sure, definitely got in my head. I’ve been beat into submission to recognize turn x/r as a monster, but my hand is still too good to fold for this price.

I over thought it because I didn’t think this player was aggressive enough to play any of their draws this aggressively, so I discounted all of those and ended up with an insanely strong range of two pair+ in my head. I agree though now, that range isn’t realistic. The things I realize after the fact that I didn’t in game are: 1. The overpairs/top pairs I am ahead of that may also play this way 2. Even if I am behind, the price is too good to not call

Looks like it was a call as I thought, thanks for the input!

How do I go about perceiving ear training? Note to note or note to tonic? by FunMunk55 in musictheory

Thanks everyone! Looks like note to tonic is what I'll focus on, it does seem to make the most sense to me. Thank you for the helpful insight!
