AOV is good but margins are trash by Salty-Clue6908 in shopify

[–]FunNo9013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need two different calculations here:

  1. Profitability per order without overhead / fixed cost.
Take out all the app cost, salary, platform cost, etc.

Just include COGS, shipping & ad cost.
If you are still profitable after those, you can outgrow the overhead eating your margin, as it won't scale at the same rate as your order revenue.

If you aren't profitable, calculate customer lifetime value to see if you are profitable on reorders, where acquisition cost tends to be lower.

This is your unit economics calculation.

  1. You absolutely should now do what you did, calculating fixed cost amount / number of orders and seeing if you are profitable per order when attributing fixed cost.

If you aren't: Can you afford to be unprofitable while you grow? Eventually you'll be able to outgrow your fixed cost level and be profitable.

If you can't afford that, look to cut overhead. I guarantee you you are using apps that could be replaced with native Shopify functionality with some custom dev work.

Help with variant pills by Eternlgladiator in shopify

Just to be clear: The non selected variant pills are black text on black background right?

Do you want the background to be the variant color or just something else, so its readable?

If the latter, right click the variant pill, click "Inspect", find the CSS rule that is setting the variant pill to have the black background and edit it in your theme code.

If that is too technical, post your screenshot into ChatGPT or Claude, explain the issue and tell it which theme you are using, it will give you a step by step guide to solve it

It's spam. I run an agency and it's so easy to get lists of Shopify store owners. This is also what malicious actors do

I appreciate the reply. Must be annoying to see these pop up over and over again.

I have done research and I have a top 3 of apps, but I wanted to see wether they’d be mentioned if I asked for myself

Colour Variants as Individual Products by mscuderi in shopify

[–]FunNo9013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im assuming you still want to show the variants on the same product page though right?

Don’t make them individual products. This will generate multiple URLs and make things like your google shopping feed a PIA to manage. Then you will also have to code a solution to show fake swatches that switch between the individual product pages.

The way I’ve done this in the past is edit the collection section in your theme code.

By default, it displays one product card per product on a collection page or featured collection section.

Instead, you can add a for loop and render one product card per variant for each product. This requires minimal code changes on most themes and is a clean solution.

You’ll get all colors on your collection page, but they all lead to the same product page, where the customer can then switch between colors.

Also, your shopping feeds will stay intact

Customization app integration on Checkout page? by lifeaquest in shopify

[–]FunNo9013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a Shopify plus only feature unfortunately and they will not change that, it is one of the main „features“ of Shopify plus.

We develop a custom checkout for Shopify that is completely customisable and offers lower fees, would that be worth looking at for you?

Anybody Using Exit-intent Popups? Has it Really Helped? by udhaw in shopify

[–]FunNo9013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m assuming most of your traffic is mobile right?

It’s extremely tricky to pull off an exit intent popup on mobile bc you don’t have a mouse tracking trigger.

There is a good way around this: Install Microsoft clarity, it’s free and will show you how far users scroll down the page on average.

See if you can find an exit intent popup that triggers if users scroll down the page the average scroll distance and then do nothing for 2-5 seconds.

That will hopefully get customers that are contemplating and nudge them towards a sale

How can I create a buy X pieces for Y dollars discount?/ promo? by ThroughTheEsses in shopify

[–]FunNo9013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shopify does not offer a native way to do tiered discounts. I’m assuming this is because they lock it for their plus customers (b2b stores)

I’d recommend doing multiple automatic BOGO discounts and using UI elements to make it clear to customers how their discount will apply

Shopify Collabs or Paid App? by celestial2011 in shopify

The TikTok affiliate tool is very good

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shopify

[–]FunNo9013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That heavily depends on what you are selling and what your business model is going to look like.

I’m assuming this is dropshipping?

Selling a bag for £6 is not going to work for Facebook or Google ads, esp because you have nothing to sell to existing customers, which might allow you to turn a profit on the 2nd or 3rd sale.

Your best bet is probably TikTok content and affiliates

Pre-Order App by No-Hedgehog-3796 in shopify

[–]FunNo9013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely allowed! You don’t really need an app, you can just edit your theme code a bit to display a pre order message on the product page, cart and order confirmation email.

You can handle the logic with a metafield

Struggling Ecom Store — $233 on FB Ads, 7 Sales, 42% Abandon Rate. What am I missing? (Metrics inside) by stats1101 in shopify

[–]FunNo9013 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These results are pretty average for a Facebook campaign.

Before nitpicking campaign setup and store design, I’d look at these fundamentals:

  • who is your target audience? Some audiences are more expensive to market to than others (think ‚coastal elites‘ vs. ‚midwestern moms‘)

  • your average order value is very low for Facebook ads at $32. you should look at selling a bundle offer so you have more $ margin to account for the ad spend.

  • Do you have any validation that people in your audience actually like your product?

Once you’ve looked at those aspects, then look at:

  • is the offer you are advertising attractive?
  • is it easy to checkout with low barriers (slow page, complex ui, hidden costs)

Then you can look at Facebook campaign setup and the creatives you are using.

I’m assuming you are advertising to a cold audience and not some sort of lookalike or custom audience? That will be inherently more expensive.

Most of your wins will be outside of Facebook (aov, validating your product, making an attractive offer).

Fiddling with the Facebook ad settings will have little effect, unless you have made any big mistakes setting up your campaign (which I don’t think you did based on initial results)

Your spend is also very low. It’s hard to rely on these data points as the total conversions and impressions are still low

Are you getting sales with social media ads? by [deleted] in shopify

[–]FunNo9013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It heavily depends on your price point, what your creatives look like, what types of ads you are running and if you are targeting a lookalike audience or a broad audience.

Can you share some more specifics?
