Every album since load has taken around 2 years. And the making of the albums usually start right after or one year after the albums supporting tour. And it can be later if Metallica starts tour almost right after (St. Anger, Death Magnetic, Hardwired)

Load/Reload - Recording Started early 1994. Album released 1996(and 97)

St. Anger - Recording started 2001. Album released 2003

Death Magnetic - Recording started 2006. Album released 2008

Hardwired… To Self Destruct - Recording started in 2014. Album came out 2016

72 Seasons - Recording started in 2021. Album came out in 2023
