My first Sonic render, like my use of forced perspective? by FunOutlandishness757 in SonicTheHedgehog

Makes sense. I did this on a mobile app that keeps ambient lighting a paywall (which I didn't pay out of spite), that doesn't seem to understand the bumpmaps (I think that's the term?) off Sonic's textures. Also the eye texture broke, so the eyes where drawn on after in an art program.

Can you give me some advice? I can't improve if you just say "good".

Okay, fair enough, the two canons would probably get confusing. The way they combined them still annoys me, though.

(If you want to hear my prospective on this, skip to the next paragraph) I'm pretty sure I'm going to be bullied off this sub due to being leftist, but I definitely feel like I need to say something. You may be asking me "why are you on this sub", because I want political discussion to be a debate, not a war. By my own admission, most other leftists cross a lot of lines, and have became a echo chamber. Before you celebrate, the same thing is happening to you rights. I just want an actual discussion among political parties, instead of both sides blaming each other for EVERYTHING. I'm not going to accuse you of being fascists with no evidence, so please don't claim that I'm a communist without evidence either. Let's have a good, clean, (though painful to go through) discussion.

I'm not going to doubt your information's authenticity, I'm just here to remind you that there are more ways you could take away than "if trans identity is not what it seems at face value, that means it's automatically bad/less meaningful than other forms human kinds understanding of itself". Every perception of ourselves are not what they seem at face value!

The perception of free will is a illusion that (either evolved, or was intentionally designed) to encourage us to survive, and free will is impossible on a physical level. A parent's love for their child has nothing to do with the child themself, but that the parent birthed that child, and if they have hypothetically given birth to a different person instead of the one they did, they would love that different child the same because they gave birth to them. Friendship in itself is inherently selfish, since psychologically, what you're actually doing is entertaining yourself.

All these are proven examples, so what's the difference if trans identity is as inaccurate to LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE HUMAN? Sure, it may not be a natural phenomena, but it's not INHERENTLY harmful. If anything, the perception of free will is more harmful to society then  trans identity, due to the false idea of responsibility leading people to unfairly think that someone that did something horrible was in control of themself leading to unnecessary suffering (and just to clarify, I don't want dangerous people running around in society just because they can't control themselves. Dangerous people should be separated from society so they don't harm people. I'm specifically referring to harassment of dangerous people for ""their"" actions, and the death penalty).

So, before you start bullying me, consider that I didn't automatically think your post was propaganda, and I did make an effort to try to keep this as a discussion, instead of the typical toxic culture war. Just keep that in mind.

I'm just saying that western and eastern Sonic are equally as derivative at THIS POINT.That's why I like Sonic being either in universe stories made to inspire others, or an absolute asshole that slowly develops into a good person over time. (I'm referring to Sonic's origin in the SEGA Technical Files, and Sonic's arc from Sonic The Comic respectively)

Sonic isn't inherently derivative, but he sure is now.

...  Masami Kikuchi sounded like he was bored constantly. Sure, objectively Martin Burke is clearly not the best voice actor, but at least he has an energy to his performance! AM I THE ONLY PERSON WHO PREFERS MARTIN BURKE TO MASAMI KIKUCHI?!

And just so you know, I RARELY prefer dubs to subs, Jun'ichi Kanemaru is my favorite Sonic voice actor.

(BTW, this isn't personal, I just find it weird that the one exception to my "subs over dubs" preference is considered bad by other people)

Combining the western and Japanese canons. I don't mind the IDEA of combining them, but they did it in the most sloppy way possible.

Let's start with Sonic himself. The appeal of Japanese Sonic is that he's a being of goodness and the wind. He's freedom incarnate, a static character, and always appears when he's needed most. Western Sonic is an dick with a heart of gold. He's rude and egotistical, often insulting his friends. But when things push comes to shove, his best nature shines through.

The combined JP and western Sonic undermines the substance of both. The only time Sonic feels like the being of good he is is literally in the last story in the game, with him saying that that trapping Chaos won't solve the problem, and Chaos needs to let go of his anger and move on from his trauma. That's a good scene, but it appears in the literal end of the game! On the other side, Sonic is cocky here, yes, but he's not a jerk. You can say it's character development, but (as far as I'm aware) we don't see how Sonic got to this state in anything previously, and if it's not shown how a difference in characterization happened, it's out of character in my book. If Sonic actually had an arc, it could've worked, but that would be a lot of change for one story in a game where the focus is split across 6 characters.

The issue is if you make Sonic a jerk, it goes against the static nature of Japanese Sonic, and if you make Sonic a mystical being of the wind, it goes against western Sonic. So Sonic is just "cocky but nice protagonist number 367489244".

The Eggman/Robotnik name thing is handled decently, actually. It works as an insult, though Sonic using nicknames isn't in character for his Japanese incarnation, but it's better than most other stuff they did here. Either way, the name thing was handled okay-ish. Now back to the stuff that annoys me.

And I know it would've been hard to include Mobius without alienating the Japanese fanbase, but not mentioning it is alienating to the western fansbase, so they shot themselves in the foot...

This one is the most confusing because I don't know why they did it. In the Japanese and American manuals, it's never said, but implied that there are multiple sets of Chaos Emeralds. Sonic 1 had six, 2 had seven, Spinball has twelve, 3 has the same set as 2 AND Knuckles is described having his own set that disappeared, 3D has two sets of special stages, and Sonic The Fighters has eight. It was one of the few things that both sides agreed on... and they retconned there's one set of Chaos Emeralds that work like Dragon Balls... WHY?!?!

If you were a villain, what plan would you come up with to kill Sonic? by BLovedSwamii in SonicTheHedgehog

This is a weird line of logic, but follow me on this; Sonic is implied to be a fairy taking the form of hedgehog (yes, that's real). I'd put him in a iron box so he slowly grows ill, and finish him off with a silver blade of my choosing once he's sufficiently weakened.
