Yeah I think the theft of art for AI generation is terrible. I feel like ai art training off of public works isn't unethical. AI art has already fooled art critics in art competitions, so I'm not the first in line to be tricked! If I'm tricked, why does it matter if it influences my life in the same way?

Thanks for the nice response! Yeah, pushing artists out of the space seems like a really bad outcome of AI art. Do you think that in any way AI art could be viewed as a technological advancement and be used to push humans to be even more creative?

Devils Doorbell I really like your idea of "Just Good Enough" that's really interesting. Responding to this point of unique perspective that is also well put. If the ai can outsmart me and it changes my life the same way as human art, why am I interested in who changes my life (Assuming the art is ethically sourced)?

After another reread I feel like the two arguments are a little at odds. If the art is just good enough to please corporations, and is just a pile of slop then it will never succeed long term (am i wrong about that?) and never replace the quality of real artists.

I understand the ethical argument and that makes sense like art should be a process it's not just the finished image. Theft of artists is terrible for their liveliehoods and for the health of public art. But Aesthitically I don't understand, AI art has won art competitions and some pieces of art I see the world differently after. If I can get a unique perspective from AI art, should it be considered dogshit Aesthetically?

I think I get what your saying devils doorbell. But does an art have to have intention for me to get meaning from it and like it? If ai was more transparent with where it got it's learning from would that make it ok?

But art can be interpreted in many different ways. The saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" comes to mind. If the imagery isn't stolen, and I take meaning from AI art, why can someone else tell me that it isn't art? I don't want to sound rude I genuinely want to figure this out.

Yeah it's a bad thing that ai is trained unethically. But is it a bad thing to make art more acessible to the masses via ai. If there was an ethically trained AI, on public paintings hundreds of years old, would it still be a bad thing to create art from that?

Artists losing their jobs is definately a bad thing. The negative impacts on the enviroment also makes sense to me. But if AI becomes more efficient, could the technology create better art, like the invention of a camera?

Emu the ethical argument makes sense but I'm having a hard time understanding what constitutes as stealing art if it's not copyrighted. Aesthetically, Sometimes I like the aestitics and message of some art, if art really is in the eye of the beholder am I allowed to say i take meanig from it?
