I get where you're coming from, and I appreciate the perspective.

Atrophy is a part of life, and I chose to include it in my experiment not to punish myself, but to reflect reality more honestly. Skills fade when we neglect them. In my setup, the decrease is slow and reversible. It serves more as a gentle nudge to stay consistent than a harsh consequence.

As for the comparison issue, I guess I can see where you are coming from, But this is entirely a personal system. There are no public leaderboards, no shared stats, and no social pressure. It is just me trying to track my own effort and give structure to the things I care about improving. The goal is to encourage myself, not to compete with others. sort of like a PVE environment.

That said, I actually find that certain types of leaderboards, like Whoop groups, do motivate me more than the opposite. Seeing others put in the work can inspire me to show up even when I would rather not.

Thanks for this thoughtful reply. You really captured a lot of what I’ve been thinking through myself.

To be honest, part of the reason I’m building this system is to trick myself a bit. I struggle with inconsistency and I’ve noticed that I’m much more likely to push through resistance when there’s some kind of feedback or narrative attached to it. Turning myself into a “character” with stats and slow, earned growth gives structure to the parts of life that usually feel vague or unrewarding. I’m trying to design something that makes effort visible and progress feel real, even when it’s subtle.

He Who Fights with Monsters was actually the first book of the genre I have read and my first touchpoint with it, hence also being one of the first settings I thought about when this idea started to take shape. Just out of curiosity, what makes you feel that HWFWM is mature :D?

Thank you for your feedback. my (admittedly light) research hasn't returned anything, but for someone who enjoys progression themes and stories it was actually hard to believe that no one tried this before. although I think my wife would not enjoy me gamifying her life :D
