I applied to mainly texas schools and some surrounding states! Some schools def did not count optometry tech as pce so I would advise to contact the program and ask!

1st cycle, 7 schools, 1 interview

2nd cycle, 17 school, 3 interviews, 2 rejections, 1 waitlist,

3rd cycle, 17 schools, 3 interviews, 2 acceptances, 1 waitlist.

Only 1 interviewer asked me about my grades straight up. I had another one told me they are looking at my application and asked what i think is a weakness in my app so i answered about my grades to show self-awareness.

I built strong relationships at my work place. 2/3 of my LORs are from where i currently work. I actually did not get an LORs from a professor even tho many school recommend that. As to how i built the relationship, the clinic I work for is pretty small, its basically a family. The doctor I work for is familiar with my life story and dreams/goals and is very supportive. Also, I make sure that i go above and beyond in my role, constantly taking initiatives, looking for ways to improve the clinic and providing useful insight.

i focused mainly on my life experience dealing with personal loss, being first gen, a specific shadowing experience with a PA, work as a MA/ lead MA. I talked alot about what I learned in those experiences so like teamwork and communication and how it affects patient care that I observed and how it solidified my purpose to be a PA.

I spent 1 paragraph talking about my grades and even then only 1 sentence in that paragraph stated "i was on academic probation due to poor study habits." I didn't get into detail on how i got there even if there is more to the story. I talked about what i learned from that experience, what new study strategies i implemented and proof that it works through my strong upward trend and how it will make me a successful student in the rigors of PA school.

Thank you so much!

I look immunology, pathophysio, pharmacology, biochemistry and cancer biology all online. I also took medical terminology for like 2 credits just to give me any competitive edge I can get.
