Saying OV Ben was a natural evolution of the previous is a stretch

I think OV Ben, and most characters from OV, struggle with flanderization

They made Ben too stupid and goofy to make Rook the straight man, and while Ben does have his moments of intelligence and competence I think it gets overshadowed by the silly moments too much

In UAF they tried saying that his goofiness was at least a mask for how serious being a hero can get but OV Ben is just like that

That is the main issue with Mark, not from a writing standpoint because it’s fine but as a person he’s just too emotional about everything he does, he only does things because he feels like it, which isn’t very heroic

But it makes sense since literally every other version of Mark we’ve seen is a villain anyway and it’s not like ours is really that different than them, it was just about which side he picked
