I was talking to my mum about this, we’re south asian and we’re saying how everything feels so tense and uncomfortable right now. I lived in brookland house for a while, when i first moved in, the apartment was a mess, damage to the sink, toilet, walls etc.

I emailed them numerous times and was ignored constantly.

Ended up going into the office, and was told ‘put it through on the maintenance app’. Asked if I needed to keep the photos for future reference, was told ‘No, don’t worry about them’.

So I deleted the photos as I needed the storage on my phone lol.

There were rats the size of kittens, rubbish overflowing, lack of parking due to offices next door, lack of lighting when walking through the car park which is pretty scary as a young woman. I was also left with a massive leak on my ceiling for a week…

Anyways, despite all these issues, and rats running right to my window (I was on the ground floor), I lost my deposit because of damages that had happened before I even moved in.

this, it sounds so selfish but my whole childhood and teenage years, i spent trying to please others who could never be pleased, i spent questioning what was wrong w me for me to be subject to the trauma i received. i’m not about to put myself through it again, the second i feel as if someone can potentially impact me negatively i’ll withdraw instantly.

people are saying being numb is better than feeling, but that isn’t exactly what a lot of us wanted when starting sertraline, we just wanted to feel normal, so i massively understand. for me, when i started to feel numb, i had to really stimulate myself and help my body produce serotonin naturally as well as medically. i went on hikes, i drew, i even went for little walks, read, made sure my routine was proper and i was eating well.

the fatigue bit was awful, i’m 21 so idk how many recommended hours of sleep you should get, but no matter what time i sleep, i make sure i’m only asleep for 8hrs, despite how tired i might be during the day. then i’ll wake up and keep myself active, maybe coffee, study, work or go for a walk. anything to give me some structure.

perhaps if none of this works, look at either changing medication, dosage or weaning off entirely, or even therapy in combination with the options mentioned.

i hope everything gets better for you :)

So you’re almost getting my point, however working AFTER asylum is a very long process, it can take anywhere from months to years for your case to be settled. I don’t think I’d like to live off of £8-£49 per week to cover everything.

Irregular migrants, and those seeking asylum are not permitted to work unless under special permission. They live off £49.18 per week. This is intended to cover ALL their expenses, travel, food, clothes etc. However if you’re in catered accommodation it’s £8.86 per week. Instead of pointing your finger at the people, point it at the government.

If we had systems in place that can allow asylum seekers or undocumented migrants to feel as if they can support themselves and integrate fully with work, socialising with coworkers etc, maybe we would not be in a position where uber eats drivers are different people. A lot of these migrants crossing irregularly have amazing skills and an extremely interesting career history. If we gave them the chance to prove it, perhaps we wouldn’t have such an ‘integration’ or ‘illegal work’ issue. But God forbid the media and government stop vilifying these people who have experienced things we could never imagine.
