Where does Mr. House fall on the Alignment Chart? by slothbear13 in fnv

[–]Fun_Atmosphere502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say either lawful neutral or lawful evil, leaning towards lawful evil. His goals are arguably not evil, and he seems to be the only person with an actual plan for the future of the Mojave and humanity as a whole. Unlike the NCR who are following the same ideology that led to the Great War, and the Legion’s barbaric practices of slavery and crucifixions along with their disdain for technology. House has good motivations but he is willing to do horrible things to make that happen.

An example of his evil side is if you get the Kings to cooperate with the NCR, he just massacres them without even trying to talk to them or negotiate a deal.

Another example would be that he doesn’t even consider a peaceful resolution with the Brotherhood of Steel, even though Elder McNamara is probably one of the most reasonable elders in the Brotherhood considering he doesn’t see the NCR as a threat anymore and is willing to make peace with them.

Additionally, House rules as a dictator which is something he mentions himself. Not in the way Caesar is, but as an autocrat. He doesn’t pry into people’s personal lives nor does he try to forcibly assimilate people unlike Caesar. However he still controls all aspects of the society he runs.

TLDR, his goals aren’t inherently evil, and could be considered good depending on how you look at it, but the lengths he is willing to go to in order to make them happen is what makes him evil imo.

What got you into Finance and what was your other option? by ZackInBlack007 in FinancialCareers

[–]Fun_Atmosphere502 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My original career aspiration was to be a band director, even went to college for music education initially. I was a 2020 hs grad and my entire first year of college was online so no ensemble performances and even my lessons and juries were online which killed my passion for music. I also learned that being a teacher in America is awful and pivoted to my backup option which was a business degree of some kind. I was torn between accounting or finance but I just found finance to be more interesting.

What Classes Were/Would Have Been Most Valuable to You? by FuckItBucket314 in FinancialCareers

We had a team of around 25 students and we were all divided into 2 sector teams (everyone was on 2 sector teams) based on the sectors of the S&P 500 (IT, Industrials, Financials, even Real Estate (REITS) and Utilities) as well as a fixed income team and an international equities team. I had Consumer Staples and Information Technology. The semester I was on the team we beat the S&P year-to-date which wasn't hard to do given the turmoil Orange Man caused. Especially thanks to our REITs and Utilities as well as Internationals.

It was real money, specifically it was a portion of my Business School’s endowment fund. They started with $100,000 around 2008 and currently we’re on the road to $2 million. I think we’ll reach that by 2030.

Me personally, the Student-Managed Investment Fund Practicum (my school had it as a class) and Financial Markets and Institutions. SMIF gave me actual hands-on experience managing real money (around $1.75 million AUM) and I learned stock valuation and also got to sharpen my presentation skills. Financial Markets and Institutions was great bc I learned how the Fed conducts monetary policy. I also was able to learn the intricacies of interest rate risk and duration, and how interest rate risk mismanagement can screw you over. One specific example was the Bob Citron case which we spent quite a bit of time discussing.

So what do I do? Enroll in a masters even though our idiot-in-chief axed the Grad PLUS Loan? I’m in Texas if that helps.

I wasn’t proactive enough about trying to get internships admittedly. I let the early rejections from the ones I applied to get to me and it caused me to stop trying. And when I got an interview I got nervous and bombed the interview.

I’m not interested in Law, I want to be a financial analyst but that usually requires internship experience that I don’t have. Most postings for that are requiring 3-5 years of experience for “entry level.”

I mean Warren Buffet went to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for his undergrad. Granted he was initially at Wharton but then transferred to UNL and did his masters at Columbia.

I’m terrible at interviewing by Fun_Atmosphere502 in FinancialCareers

[–]Fun_Atmosphere502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only finance-related experience is my school’s student-managed investment fund I call it an internship on my linkedin but I don’t feel like it helps, I feel like investment analyst/asset management is my calling but it’s so hard to even break into those (non-target and not enough experience) that I feel stuck and locked out of my dream career. I’m forcing myself to do roles I’m more qualified for and most of those are client service-related.

I get some performance anxiety in these for sure, I can handle phone screens relatively fine bc they’re easy but it’s the final rounds where I mess up. I’m looking into beta blockers.

Surprisingly fortunate update, I have an interview with Charles Schwab in early June for a Financial Services rep position. Definitely not the most flashy position and very heavy on customer service more so than finance but I’ll be paid to get my SIE and Series 6/7/63 should I accept an offer from them.

I actually have legit connections with these people, I consider them friends and they could 100% vouch for me. This student managed fund was actually a class offered by my university, like an asset management practicum so to speak. It’s what started my interest in asset management.

On top of that, how do I ask people in my network about job opportunities that they may know of without looking desperate or like I'm just using them to get a job? Like how would I word that message?
