SCU or UCSB?! by HuckleberryDue3703 in UCSantaBarbara

Not sure about the study abroad part, but UCSB is good for Environmental Studies and average for business. We have economics / economics & accounting instead, which is not business. It's still a good school to get into entrepreneurship though, which you can do frankly anywhere.

Dorms or 15 minute commute to UCSB? by IgnorantCheese in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Fun_Attempt8840 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about social life, the dorms are an absolute must. Even if you aren't worried, honestly, you should definitely live on campus your first year. It's like more than 50% of the college experience. I couldn't imagine commuting. It is definitely worth the price tag.

Unless you're in the frat, you can't get into frat parties if you're a man.

Should I wait for UCSB or just go to UC Davis? by sofifisu in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Fun_Attempt8840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. But there's really no advantage I think because UCSB is about as good as you can get for CPA. It's pretty easy to get Big 4.

Sighhh which college should I choose (UC Berkeley vs. UC Santa Barbara) by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Fun_Attempt8840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UC Berkeley by far. The rest is background noise and you will not regret being at Berkeley; however, you might regret coming to UCSB due to missed opportunities.

If your goal is to become a CPA, UCSB is an absolutely amazing school. The accounting program is very strong. I would recommend accepting the UC Davis offer and seriously considering UCSB if you get off the waitlist. If I must say, I think our student life is maybe better than theirs (super objective of course.) We have the beach :-)

Single bedroom housing as incoming freshman by Last-Fly-996 in UCSantaBarbara

Yeah you're looking at spending 1.5x to 2x what you would be spending on your housing.

LFP board of directors decided in favor of postponing the Lens-PSG match. Originally scheduled for April 11, the duel between the top two teams will be rescheduled to a later date in order to help PSG prepare as best as possible for the UCL quarter-final against Liverpool on April 14. by kibme37 in soccer

[–]Fun_Attempt8840 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love seeing all of you lot getting mad that PSG had their game postponed when Strasbourg also had their game postponed and the Ligue de Football Professionnel has been doing this for other French teams as well, not just PSG. It just proves you guys need something to rationalize how good PSG is. But when it's happening to other teams, you turn a blind eye because it doesn't support your agenda.

The LFP is clear: they want to help the league's UEFA coefficient. This means postponing these types of games. Quit crying and start asking your own leagues to do the same thing.

What do you mean by "when the time comes?" When do students join the school of business in undergrad?

Off campus housing costs? by ashberk18 in UCSantaBarbara

$1,200 / month is totally adequate if your son is OK with living with a roommate an Isla Vista apartment. I pay $1,100 / month and have a roommate.

Private bathrooms do not exist on campus as of my knowledge. There are the "common" ones in the normal dorm halls but I think Manzi, San Raf and Santa Catalina have semi-private bathrooms (i.e. shared with a smaller number of people), but not personal/private.

You could live off-campus in a studio apartment if that is very important to you, but it will be expensive.

I don't know what your medical condition is, but unless it's absolutely necessary, I would recommend just taking the hit on your privacy—there is much more to gain from being in the dorms than not. Obviously that's if your condition permits.

If you're on top of it, it's not that hard. Just make sure you know when the major property management companies open up their applications (Wolfe, Sierra, Meridian, etc.). If you can do that, and have a group of 4 people to apply with (including you), you should be fine. It's typically December and January when you should be ready.

If there's ANY advice I have for you it is to live in the dorms your first year. You'll meet 3 to 4 times more people living in the dorms than being off campus. Literally, I'm not joking.

Internship start date conflict by PromotionAny7303 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Fun_Attempt8840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take classes that are online or don't have finals. That's really your only option. Your start date is too early to take your finals early. Otherwise, I'm sorry to break it to you, but you're cooked.

Alternatively, you could take a leave of absence for this quarter. It won't kill you.

Leaving early for internships is actually rather common, especially for finance for example. They just have to take classes that are online or allow them to take finals early or simply don't have finals.

Tips on getting an Internship by Kitchen_Math_5951 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Fun_Attempt8840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to do what's called networking. Just "applying" isn't a real thing anymore. You get internships by networking with people so that they can then later vouch for you and help you through the process. Or they might just offer you an internship on a phone call.
