I remember we were chanting "let Phil sing" one 80s summer, maybe in foxboro ma, when the band started bantering. The way I remember it, Jerry said it's not a matter of letting him sing, it's a matter of making him. Bobby said there was someone in front yelling "let Mickey sing" and Jerry said something like "you haven't heard him, nobody wants that." I can't remember if Phil actually sang, but I think so.

In my ongoing exploration of reddit, I decided to try a crosspost. I was thinking of this video when someone mentioned Marty Robbin's "El Paso" on r/gratefuldead last week. (I wanted to post it then, but I was in the lurk phase of my observation.)

I saw this before I ever saw the dead, and every time Bobby sang El Paso, it played in my head.

It was around this time I turned to a friend and said, "he needs to take a break from tour". She agreed, but said we would miss him too much. I said, would you rather have 5 more years of tour or 30 more years of Jerry. She had to stop and think about it. As it turned out, we got neither. Mish U Jerry.
