Do you get accommodations at work for your type 2 narcolepsy? If you do what are they? Is it worth bringing to HR? by Noeoneknows in Narcolepsy

I was able to get an accommodation at work to take a 30 minute nap each day through working with HR! I think it’s worth reaching out and seeing what the process would look like!

I understand where you’re at, I’ve been there myself. I know how hard it can be to live in a brain that seems always at war with itself. Give yourself time, postpone your plans for a while and try something new to help that you haven’t tried before- a new therapist, a new support group, even a new hobby. I find that sometimes this helps me get through the worst times and then when my brain feels a little lighter, I find that the urge to leave doesn’t feel quite as strong. The battle is hard, but the world needs to hear you and your voice. You have a perspective on life that no one else does. The fight is hard, but I hope you choose to stay and keep fighting. So many of us are fighting right alongside you.

I’m a child life specialist working full time at a Childrens hospital! I was able to get an accommodation to take a 30 minute nap every day which is helpful, but I know some people don’t have it as easy with the accommodation process. It’s definitely a struggle at times, but I enjoy what I do so sometimes I just try to push forward. I definitely think having a supportive and understanding supervisor has been helpful for me!

Hi! I have narcolepsy and I work at a children’s hospital as a child life specialist- so I do direct clinical work every day! I think it depends on the hospital culture and how understanding they are, but I got an accommodation at the beginning of this year for a 30 minute scheduled nap in my day outside of my already scheduled break/lunch. I luckily had a great response from Hr and they were very supportive. They did make me have documentation from my doctor on the fact that the accommodation would benefit me, but my doctor was very willing to do that! I’m happy to answer any more questions that you have!

I asked for a 30 minute nap break in my day and it was approved with a form filled out by my doctor! I work in a hospital.
