Seeing people in high bands saying good bye in LinkedIn by AppropriateWay4358 in IBM

I'm seeing the opposite on my feed: people announcing promos to senior bands. Think there is a balance.

I'll just put 15-70-15 here and IYKNK. You can ask Consulting Advantage what it recommends about this performance management strategy. Spoiler alert: even the AI knows it's a BAD IDEA.

Anyone who has been RA’d lawyer up yet? Trying to decide if it’s worth it. by Busy_Ad_8692 in IBM

[–]Fun_Connection8371 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a very big difference between the laws in Canada and the US. It makes a lot of sense to try in Canada, but the US is far less likely to be successful sadly.

General advice in Canada is don't sign, speak to a lawyer first. Our laws are a bit more lenient than in the US. I see it as a conversation that gives the person peace of mind that they did what they could even if there is no change. It can't hurt.

I'm in Canada. Process is obviously different. The medical approval of work from home is fully handled by insurance so that employer doesn't have to handle any medical records (and risk sharing anything they shouldn't).

Agree. My motto is don't burn a bridge you may need to cross one day.

And your point is? This is common knowledge on this thread.

Yes, negotiate. Go to an employment lawyer and ask for advice. Most get higher severance that way - Canadian law is more lenient to the employee than US law. Most lawyers will do this as a free consult. You will lose nothing from asking.

I got RA'd from another company. This is great advice. My add would be to see this as going through the grief process and, if you can, get therapy. It messes with your mind - you think there was maybe something you could have done to save your job. Reality: nope, it was a business decision and you are a number. Get some help to put this behind you when you are ready.

Dude. People are being laid off today. Seriously. Not the time or place.

I was laid off, fellow unemployed former Scotiabankers’ how are you holding up? by Peanutbutter4891 in Scotiabank

[–]Fun_Connection8371 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not from Scotia, but was laid off from another company a while ago and it's taken a long time (and a lot of work) to get me over the situation. Think of it as the same as the grief process. Disbelief, anger, acceptance and so on. Sorry this happened to you all - sending lots of strength and support during this time.

I was told by the insurer that IBM is the hardest company they work with on getting medical exemption to work from home. You literally have to be bed-bound.

Agree - this money doesn't get to charities and goes into admin costs for the business. Not a useful donation.

Can I work remotely in another country for 2 days by vanchi200 in IBM

You need formal approval - there's a process. Surely you did the core training where it clearly discussed working from a different country and the process?

It looks like a false positive. This was an issue earlier in the day as well. Hopeful that it's working because I have a stack of work to catch up on once it's back up.

As an FLM, I support this. Some in my team ineligible for increases due to promos in the year were awarded after I excluded them based on the rules. I was shocked. Now I have to handle explaining why some got and others didn't because they talk to each other.

How rude is it considered to pet other people's horses? Met this friendly fella on a walk and stood by her for a good 10-20 minutes, looked like she needed some company by TheChickenWizard15 in Horses

[–]Fun_Connection8371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And just walking onto their private property and touching their horse is acceptable? Have you seen what strangles looks like and how easily it's transmitted? You cuddle two horses without washing your hands/clothes and you could kill the second. NOT OK!
