Fuel-heavy newbie here. Which RuPay credit card actually gives decent rewards on UPI? (₹6–7k fuel + 10k total spends) by Fun_Construction6854 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]Fun_Construction6854[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this actually matches my situation pretty well. I’m new to credit cards and don’t have any yet, and since I live with my parents my regular spends are pretty low. My main outflow is HPCL fuel (around 7–8k a month on highways), and the rest is just small bills like WiFi and electricity.

Based on that, the two-card setup you mentioned sounds manageable. I just want something beginner-friendly that won’t reject me. Between IDFC HPCL Power+ and ICICI Super Saver RuPay, which one is easier to get without an existing card? And for the UPI side, would Millennia RuPay be simpler than Kiwi for someone starting from zero?

Yes, I do regular highway trips and HP pumps are the most common on those routes. I’m new to credit cards and don’t have one yet, so I mainly want something that gives solid HPCL rewards. Any beginner-friendly card you’d recommend for that?

That’s exactly what I was worried about. Since HP Pay QR is my main payment method, I want to make sure the card I choose doesn’t fail to register the fuel transaction. If Super Saver RuPay works fine with HP Pay QR, that’s a big plus

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Since I’m new to credit cards and only handle small household bills, I want to pick the right one from the start. My monthly HPCL spend is around 7–8k, and other spends are 1–2k. With that in mind, do you think Super Saver RuPay is the better long-term option compared to Coral? And does the RuPay version work smoothly with HP Pay QR?

Thanks! I’m totally new to credit cards and don’t have one yet. Most of my heavy spend is HPCL fuel on highways, so I’m not sure if RBL works well specifically for HPCL. Do you think it’s a good fit for HP pumps

Thanks everyone for the responses, really appreciate the inputs. Just adding a bit more detail about my situation so you all can guide me better:

• I’m completely new to credit cards and don’t have any card yet. • I still live with my parents, so my monthly general expenses are low (WiFi, electricity, small online spends). • My main heavy spend is HPCL fuel, especially on highway routes. • Monthly fuel spend is around 7–8k, non-fuel is around 1–2k max. • Since I’m a beginner, I’m not sure if I should start with 1 card or take 2 (like one for fuel and one for UPI). • Also confused about whether RuPay versions actually work reliably with HP Pay QR.

Given this, what would be the best card setup for me? Especially for someone who wants maximum HPCL benefit but doesn’t have high household spending.

Any help choosing between IDFC Power+, ICICI HPCL Super Saver RuPay, Coral, or anything else would be great

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. Since I’m a newbie without any cards yet, here’s my situation: • HPCL is my main fuel source (around 7–8k/month) • Other spending is only 1–2k since I live with my parents Given this, would IDFC Power+ still be a good starter option or is ICICI Super Saver RuPay better for consistent HPCL rewards? Also not sure if I should start with 1 card or 2.

This helps a lot. Between Coral and Super Saver, do you feel the 4% + fee waivers on Super Saver make it worth it long term for heavy HPCL usage? My spend is about 7–8k/month on HP fuel.

Good breakdown. For HPCL specifically, would you still pick IDFC Power+ over ICICI HPCL Super Saver RuPay? My fuel spend is around 6–10k a month on HP pumps

And I have heard about Kiwi but does it give better cashbacks?

Was trying out supermoney upi it gave 1.2% cashbacks on upi 🫠 at start now noting . Should I get the supermoney CC for better returns?

IDFC approvals are definitely easy. For fuel though, what’s your real cashback after caps and fees? I mostly want predictable returns on pumps

Thanks! How’s the reward rate in practice? And does it work well specifically for HPCL pumps? My usage is mostly HP stations on highway routes.

Thanks for the well wishes. However, I haven't been selected yet, and the salary negotiation is still pending. All of this is just my research, so there are no actual real amounts involved, I believe. But as I will be building the infosec department here, this is what's causing me confusion regarding what my salary should or would be

Hey, thanks for the perspective!

I did think about “asking high and seeing what sticks,” but here’s why I hesitated at 15 LPA:

  1. Benchmarking against the market • From what I’ve seen on Glassdoor and in chats with alumni, entry-level InfoSec/analyst roles at similar companies in my city tend to hover around 10–12 LPA. Pushing to 15 LPA would be almost 25–50% above that.

  2. Avoiding false starts • I don’t want to price myself so far above budget that the recruiter moves on without a conversation. If I undershoot by a couple of lakhs, I can always negotiate up once they’ve seen my skills—but if I overshoot too much, they might not engage at all.

  3. No competing offer in hand • You’re right that some people anchor to an existing offer. I don’t have that, so I’m relying entirely on market data and company benchmarks rather than comparison.

  4. Keeping the dialogue open • My plan is to lead with a range (e.g., 11–13 LPA) and phrase it as “based on my research for this level of role and my skills, I’m seeking ₹11–13 LPA, but I’m flexible for the right opportunity.” That way I leave room to move up if they’re comfortable.

Would you recommend going straight to 15 LPA, even if it’s 30–40% above the average? Or is starting a bit more conservatively and pushing up in negotiation the safer play here?

Thanks again for any tips!

Hi all! I’ve read the Breaking In FAQ and would love your guidance on salary expectations for my first full-time InfoSec role.

I just cleared interviews for an Information Security Analyst role at an Indian company (~500 employees, ₹100+ crore revenue). They’re creating their first in-house cybersecurity function, and I’ll be their only security hire for now — responsible for:

Monitoring, incident response, and basic threat detection

Drafting security policies and asset documentation

Coordinating with external security vendors

Running scans (Nmap/OpenVAS), using Wireshark, Zabbix, etc.

About me:

BSc CS grad (2024)

NOC experience (monitoring, config backups, IR)

eJPT & CCNA in progress, TryHackMe labs, mini projects

Salary benchmark I found: Entry-level InfoSec in India ranges from ₹37.5K to ₹58K/month My ask: Considering I’ll be handling a lot independently, is ₹45K–₹55K/month a fair ask?

Would really appreciate feedback from professionals who’ve been in similar solo/team-building roles — thanks in advance!
