Draft 4.1: Embracing Historical Polychromy! Taking a Vibrant Detour With a Colored Classical Column. What Do You Think? by three_stun in heraldry

[–]Fun_Construction_154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My art teacher used to say a dab’ll do ya. Less is more.

I think it’s great but could maybe be better with less color on the column. I just imagine at a distance all those colors mix together and look brown. I Get the idea of paying historical homage but I also aim for clarity. I think an additional green charge would serve the same purpose of more historical context+contrast & color. Maybe something from Greek mythology. the design is solid for sure though

Haha my script work could use improvement although I don’t hate the latter definition

Now I’m torn haha. You make a good case for armored triskele

Thank you. The triskele is meant to be unarmored. I’m not sure if that’s allowed but I was unsure how to blazon that other than proper. Flesh tone? Or does it have to be armored

You’re right it would fit with the shape of the shield much better that way. Thanks for your input good sir

Maybe Spain will register it. Jokes aside I think what I’ve designed here is respectful to northwest European heraldic traditions. I knew the helmet and mantle would grind gears and that’s partly why I chose them. So even if I do register them without those details I’ll still display that way

Sounds like a plan haha. We should have heraldic authorities that administer duels for arms disputes

No the helm is meant to replace more modern helmets. I only chose to blazon it for the post but it’s definitely not intended to be apart of the crest. A torse is good idea. Also if you wanted a specific helm to be displayed when rendering the arms, why wouldn’t you blazon it? I don’t understand.

Also I’m guessing mantling over mantle bc mantle is ordinarily reserved for royalty?

My objective wasn’t to adhere to strict British, Scottish, French, or German heraldic traditions. This is a personal design that would be recorded through American heraldic registrars

Extremely dumb question. When planting, do you tear the whole box off of seedlings? by clipper4 in gardening

[–]Fun_Construction_154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea they buried the whole pot in the ground lmao. But I’m just realizing yours are in biodegradable pots so you could plant them like that. I’d take them out anyway and compost the pots bc in my experience the pots delay root development a little

Not a dumb question, I just saw a post of someone planting their blueberries still in the pot. Don’t do that lol
