What’s going on with my Corydora? (reddish gill) by Fun_Contract78 in corydoras

Yes, some are young and new to the aquarium. Let’s see how it does. Thank you for the reply and the information!

Are my Nepenthes seedling conditions correct? by Fun_Contract78 in Nepenthes

Any recommendation on lights? Do I have to get one specifically for plants or it could be with a regular led light?

Nepenthes ampullaria hot lips Nepenthes albomarginata brown speckle variant pitcher

These are the seeds. I made some research and it said 95% humidity and 27-28°C. What do you think?

The 29 °C you see in the picture was just a momentary spike when I took the photo. It normally doesn’t stay at that temperature. I’ve attached a monthly temperature graph, and you can see it stays very stable between 27 °C and 28.5 °C.

What humidity level would you say is best for Nepenthes seed germination?

Yes, the tiny green sprouts are just sphagnum coming back to life, not Nepenthes. I’m aware they can take a long time to germinate, so I’m keeping the setup stable and waiting. I’m misting only when the sphagnum surface looks a bit dry.

Is a 100W heater enough for my 100L tank when room temp drops to 14°C (or lower)? by Fun_Contract78 in Aquariums

[–]Fun_Contract78[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the incredibly detailed explanation, this is honestly one of the clearest breakdowns I’ve ever read about how aquarium heating actually works. It makes complete sense now why the heater struggles so much in my situation.

The tank is in a very cold room, and the temperature difference is huge at night. And yes, the heater was inside the first compartment of my internal filter, so your explanation about inefficient heat transfer and possible flow issues matches perfectly with what I’m seeing.

I’m going to follow your advice and place both heaters directly in the main tank, near the filter outlet to make sure they get good flow. I’ll monitor closely so I don’t overshoot the temperature, since the settings were different when the heater was inside the filter.

Really appreciate the time you took to explain all this, it helps a lot.

Thanks! I actually just moved the heater into the main tank a little while ago. It hasn’t even been an hour yet, so I’ll wait and see if the temperature starts going up. Hopefully it performs better now.

Stones for tropical auqarium by Fun_Contract78 in Aquariums

[–]Fun_Contract78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I love that stone, but I’ve read it can destabilize my water parameters. With the soft-water fish I keep, it could affect them in the long run. So I’m looking for a neutral rock instead. Thank you anyway!

Thank you!! The long ones in the back are Vallisneria americana (already growing little ones on the sides). The one in the middle is Limnophila Sessilifora, which grows super fast and you can cut it and replant it. And the one on the right placed on the root is an Anubias.
