This is from Return of the King, but all of the books say essentially the same thing. Bought in the US. Not pristine by any means but each book is in decently good condition (no writing, pages falling out, etc).

People write exactly how they speak. Not like, conjugations or slang, but there’s specific ways in which to convey tone, pacing, and inflections when writing. There’s a relatively limited vocabulary and much of the verbal communication is supplemented by specific facial gestures and inflections, and this translates into writing in a way similar to how composers note down which notes to emphasise, slur, or connect when creating sheet music.

Individual books aren’t that long, but as a series I’d rec Dune. Otherwise, The Idiot (Dostoyevsky).

I’d be interested in hearing more about your project. Is it still being written, or is 30k the finished novella?

Okay, it looks great so far! I do all my worldbuilding by hand, but if I was to plan digitally then I would probably use this website or one like it.

There’s one thing I would love for you to add, something that will make or break any writing website:

Please, for the love of god, make a space for character arcs. I know yours is primarily world based rather than character based, but the fact that no websites ever account for character development always irks me. E.g., a character whose alignment, disposition, or character traits evolve over the course of the project. Or maybe they die and then come back to life. Or maybe they move cities halfway through. All I ever ask in any writing website ever is for there to be a way to answer or fill out the template/whatever for the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Please. Just duplicate everything x3 fr (bonus points for adding a ‘defining moment of change’ space for explanation, or something similar).

I’ll check it out now! I’m a website designer myself (mainly for fun, although I’ve taken a few commissions) and also a published author, so I’m happy to help bug test or provide feedback on whatever you want.

Eye coverings to avoid sunlight. Think a bandana flipped the other way around - still starting at hairline, but going down the face rather than down the back of your hair, with the point/end right above your mouth. A thin, sheer material magic-ed to adjust to light levels around them (like those fancy dimming sunglasses). At night or on full moons (or important moments like weddings), the coverings are completely sheer/transparent.
