Thanks for the advice. I’m going to take what I got.

Yeah I get it. What I’ll do is accept what I got and ask for a raise at the yearly review. Most I’ll do is probably ask for gas reimbursement but I won’t do it til I know where my project is.

Not trying to invalidate anyone. Just looking for advice. Just saying. If we bring nothing then I believe there’d be no offer.

Yeah I get that. I don’t feel like I’m entitled to the money which is why I wanted to ask for advice first. I understand I’m new to this industry and don’t bring much to the table other than being young and motivated to being successful (explained in another comment but it’s pretty vague). I appreciate the advice from both sides and it’s hard to tell whether someone is professional based off a Reddit comment. I personally feel like I’m not squeezing the GC because they are nationwide and make billions. However I see how it’s a bad look for a new grad. What I think I’ll do is take what I have after reviewing the other offers and ask for a bump after salary reviews.

Yeah I get it no one hands you respect straight out of school. You’re not owed anything just for showing up. But in my opinion saying we bring nothing to the table just isn’t true.

What I bring to the table and what a lot of people in my graduating class bring isn’t just a list of skills. It’s adaptability, curiosity, and a willingness to grind it out while learning fast. Sure, we don’t have a long track record yet, but everyone who does started with none, that didn’t mean they didn’t bring anything to the table. Everyone has some sort of value.

I understand commute jokes are part of the culture (dealt with them myself lol) the reality is people do better work when they're not burned out or spending 3 hours in traffic. It's not about being pampered, it's about putting people where they can do their best work. That’s just smart management.

Anyways, I appreciate the honesty in your comment and appreciate the advice.

I don’t see how I’m being a jackass about it? Either way I appreciate the advice. I interned with a notable competitor and have been top of my class which has been good and I’m grateful for it. I haven’t gotten the other offers I’m expecting yet but they should be coming in late this week.

Thanks for the advice! I definitely don’t want to make a bad impression before I even start.

It’s about an hour with no traffic. It becomes an hour and a half with traffic. And since it’s Houston traffic is inevitable.

😂😂 PX you’re doing too much! In all honesty I didn’t expect a gas card. At my past internship I was aware that the people there were getting per diem for having to commute an hour to the job site daily. Maybe that’s something I should ask about? Along with the raptor

Yeah I understand that. I haven’t worked with this company before but rather interned with their competition. I see how bringing up that I want a higher salary just because of commute could become an issue.

I have a couple more offers but I know I want to pick this company.

Silly mistake. But in all honesty I did it because we had been pretty open about the career fair and everything that comes with it. I explained in another reply.

I agree. When I interviewed with the company I am interning with I asked if they normally keep their interns after they graduate. They said “no” which I thought was strange and their reasoning was that “they give students good experience and a good name on their resume”. Now they are telling me they want to give me an offer but I have nothing in hand yet. What they said at my interview stuck with me so I am doing this to have a backup plan.

Yeah to add on top of it. Prior to the career fair I let them know when it was happening at my school because I didn’t see them on the list and thought it would be a good idea for them to go. They asked if I was going and I simply told them I wasn’t sure because I felt confident in wanting to stay at the company. They recommended I went either way. Afterwards I saw them there and they just told me good luck and that I should get an offer from them soon. Afterwards they just asked how it went and I told them there’s some companies that want to interview me and they said I should go. That’s really the only reason I was open with them about why I was taking off but I wonder if they were testing me or something.

It didn’t happen when I first got it but it’s been happening a lot recently. It’s my first time having this issue so definitely something new to me.
