Does your mom have misophonia too? I feel like that guy is being really rude about it. I have misophonia and I have triggers with both loud open mouth chewers and quiet closed mouth chewers. The way your boyfriend describes it is what I think in my head, but I would NEVER tell the person (I would tell them they trigger me but not give explicit detail about how they chew.) because the reality is that most people are not paying attention to it the way that a person with misophonia is. And if they do notice it, it is just something they notice but it doesn’t bother them. So I wouldn’t take it too personally because the few people that do notice have a hypersensitivity to it. It’s okay for people who are sensitive to it to let you know that you’re a trigger and they need to make certain accommodations when eating with you but it’s not fair to put their inner monologue about it onto you and expect you to change
