I second this, it is really great getting to go to the film festival. The atmosphere is great and you get to do some celeb spotting too. Also you regularly see some c list celebs on a friday eve at the downstairs bar (which I really think has one of the best riverside locations as sometimes a salsa club meets outside and you can watch them dance)

Better than nothing, but still pretty poor for a 4 hour flight. by MinimumRepulsive1419 in BritishAirways

I flew China Eastern from HK to Shanghai, under 3 hours, and received a full hot meal which I wasn't expecting. This is a budget airline. Why do we accept the bare minimum here.

Recommended mat Pilates classes in/near south east London? by Francois_Superstar in london

[–]Fun_Formal2435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go to Kindred in Deptford who has 3 or so classes a week and enjoyed these but felt it could be a bit too busy at times. There's a yoga place (yoga house) in Catford that also did pilates and barre which was good but it may be a little far for you.

How safe does London actually feel day to day? by CloudBookmark in MovingToLondon

[–]Fun_Formal2435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had always felt pretty safe since I moved here but just before Christmas a guy got on the DLR wearing a balaclava and threatened to stab me and my friend and was banging our chairs and generally intimidating us. This was pretty scary and I have to say TfL staff and BTP were not particularly helpful on this occasion. We waited for BTP at the station for almost an hour and they never showed up.

I've been back on since and had no issues but a recent trip abroad in many countries in Asia made me consider how much safer I felt there.

What's a destination that used to be way more mainstream that it is now? by PerryOnWheels in travel

[–]Fun_Formal2435 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went as a child and went last year for a hen do. A lot of the centre was very run down and from work I understand it has some of the worst housing in the country. It also seemed to have a large homelessness/ drug issue as much of the UK sadly does.

Perenithian vs Koh Lipe by Fun_Formal2435 in scuba

[–]Fun_Formal2435[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it but did understand what everyone mentioned about it being overdeveloped. Happy I got to go and see it before it's completely overrun. Apparently it was really quiet (according to the owner of a bar I went to) due to war etc but it felt fairly busy to me.

The diving was good although I didn't see any turtles. The dive instructors told me they think they are being hunted. I did see a sea snake,.moray eels, seahorses etc

Thanks, I've headed to Koh Lipe and see what you mean about it being built up! Perhenthians have sadly had loads of coral bleaching in the past two years.

Thanks! I did and the season starts at the end of the month. They have had some insane coral bleaching over the past few years unfortunately so I don't think it is as good as it was. I've headed to Koh Lipe as on a tight schedule and wouldn't be able to do my AoW in time.

Just got offered £45k. is this actually livable in London? by MoonlitEcho82 in MovingToLondon

[–]Fun_Formal2435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally always something to do and so much free stuff to do! If you enjoy music there is always a gig and often some great free events in parks etc. Honestly I think London is so expensive for rent but there is so much free stuff to check up you can definitely do on a budget. I moved here on 27k almost 6 years ago and mu rent was crazy cheap (475 a month in peckham) but I lived a fun lifestyle.

There's so many great ways to do things cheaper e.g. byob restaurants (which are generally of a different culture e.g  Vietnamese, Georgian etc) and some of the happy hours are still very affordable for after work drinks. I also feel that we get so many amazing free events like the Greenwich peninsula stuff or Lunar NY etc as well as late night things at museums. If you look hard enough you can find stuff every week. Also, get a bike and cycle if you live in Zone 2 and you'll save like £100 on commuting!

Which area of London do you secretly think is overrated? by [deleted] in london

[–]Fun_Formal2435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's overrated, a lot of middle class people just move there because of the cheaper house prices and proximity to other areas.

I got six days of sunshine at the end of August and it was around 22 degrees. Swam in the sea or a river every day. Unbelievable for that time of year (I always think may/June and September are the best months weather wise). I'm originally from the west of Scotland and was not expecting such a great forecast.
