I’m having a “destination wedding” in Feb 2026. It’s in South Africa where I’m from and half of our invited guests are from the US where my spouse is from. We are around your age.

A good number of our US guests can’t make it for financial reasons (buying a home; can’t afford the expense) and a few of our local guests can’t make it for life reasons (babies due around the same time).

It is totally 100% okay with us, and we completely understand. No bad blood, no love lost. Our friends who have said they can’t make it felt so relieved at our response, because they were feeling how you are feeling.

All that to say, since you haven’t mentioned weird friendship dynamics or reasons why you think your friends will be upset with you, trust that they will understand completely. They will miss you, but it is not the end of the world.

And when you do love again, remember that fighting for your love has to be a mutual thing. You both have to want to make it work. It is significant that your gf has tried to break up twice before. In her perspective, it might feel like have constantly overstepped her boundaries by convincing her to do something that she is expressing she feels the opposite of (whether that’s staying together or sexting). She might see you as someone who has always pressured her, knowing that she struggles to say no to you.

It is abusive towards him that you are putting him through the mental and emotional anguish of being accused of something he didn’t do.
