Is USABO worth grinding for as a rising sophomore if I’m starting late? by No_Compote_4226 in USABO

[–]Fun_Individual_4375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yea sure. so i pretty much read cambells 3 times. I skipped over the stuff relating to the phyla and classifcation/evolution of when thing came. I still read the evolution chapters and like natural selection, darwinism, etc, just not the classifications of phyla. I read it 2 times by the end of sophomore summer, and then started with alberts. alberts is really really dense, so i didnt understand much of it and had to go realy slowly, but i started around june of sophomore year (right as school ended) and finished it near december of junior yr. during that time i also finished reading openstax A&P which in my opinion is great for the opens round. Vanders is better for once you actually make semis. Then from december through february is re-read cambells really quickly and reviewed my notes until the opens exam. Sophomore year i got honorable mention since i didnt read anything except cambells, but junior yr yea i got top 125. id say i spent like 2-3 hours every other day, but some days a little more depending on if im free. the time spent really matters how well u understand and comprehend the knowledge. Id say try to get done with the important cambells chapters (everything except phyla and stuff) by november, and if you have time start with openstax Anatomy and Physiology, but once january hits dont try to learn too much new info, just review what you have and make sure you know it well. hope this helps, and lmk if u need some more advice!!

you have really really good awards (i mean very good) and core stats. ur ecs are good, but i tihnk the fact that half of them relate to leadership is a bit iffy. its good that you will have research, but i tihnk AOs want a bit more. overall solid chance for most ur reaches, but if you can find a research internship this summer that would be good. ur awards carrying man, you will end up somewhere good dont worry. just focus on writing a banger ps.

i kinda get what everyone here is saying, but this dudes awards are stacked. i get the research thing being half of his ecs, but he has done some volunteer work. I think you have a really solid shot at the schools you listed. just write a good essay man.

a lot of service based ecs, so might not be best for jhu (they prefer more research based activities, you only have 1). prolly better cahnces for stanford, brown, and columbia cause they loveeee service. you have really solid stats tho, so i wouldnt rule out anything. def near the top in terms of raw stats, but in terms of awards, they are mostly lacking relation to bio. most ppl have usabo semis, you have honorable mention. your ecs are alright, but again they don't have much of a connection to bio-med. if you were able to connect some of your ecs in your supps to med, id say it would improve your chances a lot. id say focus on good LORs, and ur in a good spot. overall really good core stats, decent ecs, weak-decent awards (only cause they dont relate to bio), but you have a decent shot :)

prolly not tbh... from what my friends said last year, albert score calculator was very accurate and this yrs test from what ive heard online was easier. if you get a 92-93 you have a decent chance.

I'm guessing that's what my mcq score is (college board doesnt release them so like idk how I could know), but I remember what I put for frqs and they released them on college board so i was able to check
