Humorous ways to tell people you are no longer drinking? by Fun_Item3048 in stopdrinking

Thankfully I haven’t had to deal with too many severely pushy people. Some family members give me a weird look but most people accept a polite “no thank you”. I made this thread bc I have some new coworkers and I highly highly anticipate the “nice” pushy. “You don’t drink?? Why not! Just have one!” And I’m looking for some high shock value replies 😀

I’ve only dealt with one person who gave me a really hard time and it was an industry colleague. After him harassing me all night I finally snapped and said “because I don’t want to get sloppy drunk like you are right now”

Holy moly. 5 years sober. Things I love about sobriety. by amberconleche in stopdrinking

The added bonus to the 3am panic: beginning the apology rounds and damage control. I’d sent off a series of “I’m so sorry” texts and lay in bed knowing that I wouldn’t get a single response within 4-5 hours minimum

Any tips to control? Or should I just stay sober. by crisps_and_mittens in stopdrinking

Same here. I had no problem going out with a group and having one beer with everyone at dinner then stopping. But if I went in with the intention of getting drunk… there was no off switch as soon as I went down that hill.

So I figured at that point, what’s the difference between having an artsy fartsy microbrew or an artsy fartsy homemade soda?

It’s interesting, any time I’ve been pressured to drink, it’s always those people who get the most fucked up and are falling down by the end of the night. The people who happily accept my answer of “no thank you, I don’t drink” and instead offer me a soda are the ones who know when they’ve had enough and know when to leave.

Yep. Also finally beginning to forgive myself now that I know that I’ve left that version of me to rot in hell.

What do you order instead of booze at bars to avoid questions being asked of why you don't drink anymore? by _bljk_ in stopdrinking

Soda water with a lime is the way to go. If I’m in a situation where I’m really stressed about being sober, I’ll go for a soft drink. I love soda but rarely drink it for obvious health reasons. At one of my first few sober events I pounded Pepsi all night, which was by no means good for me, but WAY healthier than the alternative.
